The sun was already setting. Jiang Qi sat on the wooden floor with his back leaning against the doorframe, and without saying a word, he grabbed another can of beer, opened it with a sharp hiss, and brought it to his lips, then downed it without a pause.
Beside him, Shen Yi sat quietly with his legs folded under him, just watching Jiang Qi drink before he lifted his own bottle and took a small sip.
For the past hour, they had been sitting there, drinking in silence, not because there was nothing to say but maybe because neither of them knew how to start.
The entire day had been theirs, from walking alongside the calm lake, riding a slow boat with the wooden paddles slicing through the water gently, to trying their luck at fishing where only one tiny fish got caught, and even then, they threw it back with Jaing Qi's laughter fillung the air. They had also visited Uncle Ming, who smiled warmly as he waved them off.
