Seraphina's POV
"Adrian," I called his name gently, placing my hand over his.
He snapped out of whatever dark place his mind had gone to and immediately pulled me tighter against him, burying his face in my neck.
His arms wrapped around me like iron bands, as if he were scared I might disappear if he let go. I rubbed his arm soothingly, trying to calm the violent storm of emotions I could feel radiating from him.
"Nobody can take me away from you," I whispered softly. "Nobody."
He hummed a low, rumbling sound deep in his chest, but didn't let go. After a moment, he pulled back just enough to look at me, his eyes still dark and dangerous.
"What did he say?"
I shook my head. "He didn't say anything. He just gave me that note and ran away. I even tried to follow after him, but he disappeared again."
"Follow after him?" Adrian's eyes widened in shock, and then his expression shifted into something between anger and worry. "Seraphina, you can't do that!"
I blinked. "What?"
