Chapter 1 - HUNTER BECOMES THE PRAY

There is a law written into the very fabric of nature: only the strong survive, and the weak must perish. The strong become the hunters. The weak will become the prey.

For centuries, humans lived that truth. Weaker in strength, slower in evolution, they were nothing more than cattle to the vampires. Hunted in the night, drained of life, treated as little more than blood-filled toys. For thousands of years, vampires ruled the Earth with crimson crowns and iron fangs.

But time has a way of shifting power. The predators grew weary, arrogant… and eventually, merciful. Seeking coexistence, the vampires offered peace. They freed the humans from their chains. No more hunting, no more slaughter just an agreement: regular blood donations, paid for with gold and respect.

Humans flourished. They built cities. They crafted their own societies. Vampires withdrew into their own cities, their own world. For the first time in history, the planet knew balance. Peace.

But peace built on blood is never eternal.

And as history has always shown…

The weak do not stay weak forever.

And the strong?

They forget how to fight.

So the roles began to shift once more.

And this time… the prey came to hunt

PRESENT — AFTERNOON

The sun was setting, painting the sky in hues of orange and crimson. Birds chirped in the distance, filling the warm afternoon with a rare sense of peace. An alarm blared loudly in a grand, dark-themed bedroom within a towering vampire castle nestled on the edge of the city. A sleepy teenager groaned as he reached out to turn it off—but in his drowsiness, he slipped and tumbled off the bed.

"Ugh… damn it," he muttered, rubbing his head as he stood up. He grabbed the alarm clock and froze.

6:45 PM. "Oh, shit! I'm gonna be late for my first day of college—damn it!"

In a panic, he rushed into the bathroom, took a quick shower, threw on his clothes, and dashed downstairs to the dining hall, which was decorated with gothic chandeliers and velvet curtains.

"What's for breakfast?" he asked, still fixing his collar.

His mother, a graceful vampire woman in a long black gown, smiled softly. "It's your favorite, honey—fresh O+ blood." Drake Diabolos nodded in appreciation, then looked around. "Where's Dad?"

"He left the city early this morning for business," she replied gently. In his rush, Drake only drank a single glass before slinging his bag over his shoulder and hurrying toward the grand castle gates.

"Take it easy, son!" his mother called from behind. Then she whispered to herself, "Take care of yourself… You're the only son and the prince of the Diabolos family."

Sigh...

Drake's voice echoed in narration as he ran:

"My name is Drake. I'm the son of Damon Diabolos, the king of this city and head of one of the most prestigious vampire families in the world."

"Today, I'm starting at Celeste College—one of the top vampire academies in the country. Princes from powerful families all over come here to study. I'm excited… I'll finally get a chance to make friends."

Drake had struggled with loneliness in his previous school, where others feared him due to his family name. But now, he felt hopeful—completely unaware of the darkness the future held.

Celeste College was a majestic place—more like a royal castle than a campus. Grand spires pierced the sky, stained glass glowed with crimson light, and the gates were guarded by elite vampire sentinels.

As Drake entered the massive courtyard, he looked around, trying to find his first class. That's when he saw her.

A familiar girl with long silver hair and deep red eyes—Victoria. A vampire from his childhood, and… his first crush.

Drake froze for a second, slightly embarrassed, but happiness welled up in his chest.

"Hi, Drake. Do you remember me? I'm Victoria. We went to the same primary school."

"Oh! Victoria! Yeah, of course I remember," Drake said with a warm smile. "How have you been?"

"I've been good. It's nice to see you here. What class are you heading to?"

"I'm still trying to find it," he replied.

"Let me check… Oh wow! We're in the same class!" she said excitedly. "Let's go together!"

The two walked to their classroom, chatting and laughing. For the first time in a while, Drake felt like things were finally going right.

Halfway through the night, the campus cafeteria buzzed with students enjoying their meals. Drake and Victoria sat together, drinking blood from crystal glasses, enjoying each other's company.

But suddenly, they heard loud noises outside—screams. Then—BOOM!—a deafening explosion shook the building. Dust filled the air. Panic erupted.

People screamed and ran in every direction.

Drake grabbed Victoria's hand. "Come on!" he yelled, pulling her toward the main building.

An emergency alarm echoed through the halls.

"Terrorist attack by humans! All students move to the evacuation center immediately!"

Drake and Victoria sprinted toward the safe zone. But when they reached the corridor, they froze.

Humans—wearing black coats and wide-brimmed hats—were already there, armed with Whitworth rifles. Without hesitation, they began firing.

Silver bullets.

Drake's eyes widened as several vampires behind them fell, their bodies convulsing before going still.

"They're using silver!" he shouted. "Don't let them hit you!"

They bolted in another direction, ducking through a side door. Explosions continued outside as the campus descended into chaos.

"Where the hell are the guards?!" Victoria cried.

They ran into the girls' restroom, locking the door behind them. Victoria collapsed in tears while Drake held his hand over his mouth, trying to stay silent.

An hour passed.

"I think… I think they're gone," Drake whispered.

Just then, footsteps echoed outside. A human voice called out, mocking:

"Oh, my cute little vampires… where are you hiding?"

The door creaked open. Boots thudded on the tile floor. One by one, he began checking each stall.

Drake and Victoria sat frozen in the last stall.

Just as the attacker was about to open it, another human burst in.

"Stop wasting time! Reinforcements are coming—we need to go!"

The man paused, grinned at the stall door, then turned and ran off.

Only after a long silence did Drake and Victoria dare to move.

They stepped out—and what they saw outside was worse than any nightmare.

Bodies. Blood. Smoke. Fire. The beautiful campus was now a graveyard.

Then—footsteps. Fast and heavy.

Drake immediately dropped to the ground, pretending to be dead. Victoria was too slow. A human saw her. Without a word, he raised his gun and shot her in the head.

Drake bit down on his tongue to keep from screaming. The man walked over and, smiling darkly, began stabbing Victoria's body. "This… is so satisfying. All this time, we were just livestock to you monsters. You deserve this." Drake watched in horror, unable to move as the knife tore through her face again and again. Even after the human was gone, he couldn't move. He stayed there, shaking, for over an hour.

Eventually, he stood up, tears in his eyes. He didn't look back at Victoria's body. He couldn't. He just ran through the back of the destroyed campus, dodging bodies and collapsed buildings. He ran toward the castle. Toward home.

But what he saw next shattered him completely. His entire city… was gone. Everything was in ruins. Smoke filled the air. Lifeless vampire bodies lay everywhere. Still, he didn't stop running.

Please… let my family be safe… After a half-mile sprint, he reached the once-grand castle of the Diabolos family.

Now, it was just rubble. He ran inside, calling out desperately. "Mom?! Dad?! Anyone?!" But what he found were bodies—his sisters, his aunt, his uncle… even his little cousin. All dead. He dropped to his knees, sobbing like a madman.

Then—a voice. Faint. Weak.

"D… Drake…"

He ran to it. His mother, bloodied and barely breathing, lay crushed beneath a stone pillar.

"Mom!"

She held his hand and, with her last breath, whispered, "Go… to the city… of the Five Kings… in the north…" Her hand fell limp. She was gone. Drake screamed, his voice echoing through the ruins. As dawn broke over the blood-soaked city, the nightmare of the night finally came to an end.

This was only the beginning.
