Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 Under the Night

Under the night sky, a young man with long black hair, red tips, and a red flame pattern extending to his right eye on his forehead, was hurrying towards the village ahead, carrying a bag of medicine.

The young man's name was Chiba Yo; as a child, his father had despised him because of the Breath Styles / Marks on his forehead, eventually abandoning him and his mother.

His mother raised him alone, but a year ago, she fell seriously ill and became unable to move, so Chiba Yo, who was only fourteen at the time, supported himself and his mother by gathering herbs and chopping wood in the mountains.

After entering the familiar village, everything before Chiba Yo's eyes made him freeze.

What met his gaze was blood and severed limbs; the once familiar villagers were now just incomplete bodies, their eyes wide with terror, staring at the sky. The village under the night sky was as silent as ever.

Thud!

The medicine in Chiba Yo's hand fell to the ground, his mind a blank at the sight before him.

"Mother… Mother…"

Chiba Yo murmured, his heart filled with worry and fear, then he quickly ran towards his home.

The horrific scenes along the way made his heart sink bit by bit.

What… what happened…

Tears streamed from Chiba Yo's eyes, his heart filled with confusion.

Just then, a figure walked out of a house ahead.

"Hehehehe, another human, and a child at that. What good luck, child's meat is even tastier."

By the moonlight, Chiba Yo clearly saw this "figure."

It had grayish-green skin, a ferocious face, blood all over its mouth, and was holding a severed arm.

This creature before him clearly could no longer be called a human; it was merely a humanoid monster.

The monster licked the blood from the corner of its mouth, looking at Chiba Yo as if he were food, then bit into the severed arm, which belonged to who knows whom.

Seeing this monster, Chiba Yo's worry for his mother intensified.

What… what kind of monster is this? Did this monster do everything that happened in the village? Could Mother also…

Chiba Yo thought, growing more anxious. He did not stop, continuing to run towards his home.

The monster's eyes watched Chiba Yo with interest. Seeing his actions, it did not stop him, even stepping aside to clear the path. Even when Chiba Yo ran past it, it made no move; it had eaten enough and was not very interested in more food.

Chiba Yo ran a certain distance before stopping. A little further and he would be home, but there was no need to go back now.

His mind went blank the moment he saw the scene before him. His eyes widened, bloodshot, as if about to burst, and his body trembled with anger and grief.

On the path ahead were two bloodstains, at the end of which lay the corpse of a woman. Her limbs had been separated; her legs, arms, and torso were all several meters apart, and her head was severed, lying askew on the ground, covered in dust, her eyes staring forward, directly meeting Chiba Yo's gaze.

Chiba Yo stood frozen, unable to believe the scene before his eyes. At this moment, the monster slowly walked over.

"Although the meat of these old folks isn't tasty, it's good for amusement. Cutting off their limbs one by one, watching them go from running to hopping, and finally crawling forward bit by bit until they stop moving. Hehehehe, that terrified yet comical look is quite interesting."

The grayish-green-skinned monster grinned, then continued: "But it's a bit of a shame that these old folks' bodies and spirits are too fragile. They only had two legs broken and already couldn't hold on, no longer running. So I had to be merciful and eat them to end their suffering."

As it spoke, it even spread its hands. By this time, the monster had walked up to Chiba Yo and, looking at the scattered limbs ahead, said with a rather appreciative tone: "This human before you is different. She held on until the very last moment."

"Hehehehe, although this one couldn't use her legs, her will to survive was much stronger than others. She actually crawled all the way here, and even with both arms broken, she could still escape over ten meters by using her head and torso, which brought me a lot of fun."

"And before she died, she mumbled something like 'I promised Xiao Yang I would live well.' Hahahahaha, it was truly amusing."

Chiba Yo's heart trembled, then he stiffly turned his head to look at the monster. The veins on his forehead bulged, and his teeth were clenched tight; anyone could see his current rage.

Upon seeing his expression, the monster licked its hand and chuckled, then spoke in a light tone: "Oh? That expression is quite interesting. Could it be… that human has some relation to you? Oh dear, could it be that you are the Xiao Yang she spoke of?"

"So, that pile of severed limbs on the ground is your mother, then?"

"I'll kill you!!!!"

Tears streamed down his cheeks, and due to clenching his teeth too hard, there was even a metallic taste in his mouth. The flame Breath Styles / Marks on his right forehead seemed to light up.

After roaring these words, Chiba Yo raised his fist and forcefully struck towards the monster's face.

"Hahahahaha, it seems I hit the mark…"

The monster laughed happily for a few seconds, completely unconcerned by Chiba Yo's attack. It extended its left hand to block his fist.

However, the next moment, Chiba Yo's fist stopped in mid-air, and he kicked the monster in the chest.

Although Chiba Yo was only fifteen years old now, his strength far exceeded that of an adult. This kick directly sent the monster flying, crashing into a large tree ahead.

How could this be! This guy seemed to anticipate my movements!

The heavy blows to its chest and back filled the monster's face with an expression of disbelief.

The next moment, its smile vanished, and the recent situation made it furious with shame.

"Mere human! How could you repel me?!"

The monster roared in anger, stood up, and rushed towards Chiba Yo at an extremely fast speed, then raised its right hand.

In Chiba Yo's vision, the monster's muscle texture, blood flow, and organ function were all clearly visible, as if transparent.

This information was telling Chiba Yo the monster's next move.

The anger and grief brought hatred and killing intent to Chiba Yo, but they did not cloud his mind.

Chiba Yo turned sideways, and the monster's fist swung past his face, unable to harm him in the slightest.

After dodging the monster's attack again, Chiba Yo casually picked up an axe placed on a nearby wooden stake, then swung it at the monster's arm.

The monster tried to dodge, but the speed at which the axe blade descended far exceeded its expectations, and its arm was severed with a thud.

"Ah!!!"

The monster let out a cry of pain and stumbled back a few steps. However, the wound on its shoulder quickly stopped bleeding and was slowly growing a new arm.

Chiba Yo's eyes were fixed on the monster before him. He could feel his body temperature rising rapidly, and the thumping of his heart echoed within his chest, beating much faster than usual.

"Impossible! Humans are merely food for us demons, it's impossible for you to have such power, what kind of monster are you?!" The monster shrieked at Chiba Yo, its face beginning to show signs of fear.

This was the first time it had encountered such a situation since becoming a demon.
