Chapter 1 - Shao Mingzhu

"Hmm."

A slight groan escaped from a man's lips.

Five more minutes! Just five more minutes of sleep!

The man then flipped and rolled to the other side of his pillow, feeling the nice coldness coming from the unused side.

He tugged on the blanket to cover his neck, and finally wrapped his arms around a second pillow.

Whisp!

"Damn, what's with all the rustling?" The man complained, and threw the bed sheets off of him and stomped his way to the window.

Pulling the curtains to the side, he looked out the window, only to step back in fright.

What the fuck?! Why are there flying men outside my window?

Suddenly, a rush of information clogged his brain, causing his movements to come to a halt.

Shao Mingzhu, a college graduate from Kunlun University? Wait, wasn't I just sleeping? How the hell did I travel to another world?

The man's name is Lan Yuan, or now Shao Mingzhu.

He just mastered his ancestral meditation that he was forced to learn since he was a child. Every day for four hours he was forced by his family to practise this technique saying that he was the "most talented" out of them all and will be the first person to transcend this universe.

After mastering it on his eighteenth birthday, he decided to reward himself with a nice long nap, but who would've thought this nap would've sent him to a strange world with flying humans!

Wait, normally these things happen when someone dies, right? So how did this body die?

Lan Yuan started to shift through his memories of this life.

I graduated last year with a degree in runes. Rune is the language of the cultivation world, and is what alchemy, blacksmiths, and array masters use. Shao Mingzhu mainly studied ancient runes, meaning he, or should I say 'I' have no real skills.

I was offered a job a month ago, but this job was about the secret realm that appeared before the great collapse of the universe, which is now being held up by the gods.

Gods? Are there really gods? Well I guess flying people exist, so why not.

Speaking of flying people, this world is filled with cultivators from all walks of the world, and some of them have the power to destroy entire cities! And a city here is equivalent to a province!

Shao Mingzhu took a deep breath, and began to search his room for any useful information.

With the current rate of information he was gaining from his head, it would take a week to fully process it.

He started from his bed, and calmly looked over at the desk that was on the right of the bed.

On the desk was a slightly worn out picture of a boy with black hair and white teeth and a young girl who also had black hair, but the hair was a bit messy and unkept, showing that this family wasn't well off.

So this is me? Not bad, it has a very close resemblance to my previous life. That girl should be my sister? Shao Yunlu seems to be her name. She graduated from the same university as me but didn't study runes, but studied alchemy.

In this world, once your path is chosen, it cannot be changed. All your attacks will be that of alchemy, and she will not be able to use formations or talismans.

How particular. This seems to stem from the runes in our bodies. Once one heads down a path, that's when their runes start to change into it, practically putting a lock on all other professions.

This doesn't sound like much on paper, but an alchemist cannot use swords or spears to fight, making them nearly useless in a fight.

Though alchemists are very profitable.

Shao Mingzhu lost himself in his thoughts as he stared at the picture.

Due to the picture giving him some extra details about his life, his memories started to flood in faster.

Shaking his head, he began to search the other parts of the somewhat run apartment of his.

There was an old standing clock on the other side of the room, as well as a desk filled with paper scattered across it.

This body really likes old antiques. The old standing clock could be roughly thousands of years old. Although old, it wasn't very valuable.

Shao Mingzhu walked up to the desk, and his eyes scanned the surface of the desk. It was a mess, with papers on the walls and floors. Ink was scattered around like a child playing in a puddle.

Hmm, before I came to this world, Shao Mingzhu was working on a project deciphering the runes in the secret realm. According to my memories, Shao Mingzhu was a very tidy man, but the room around me seemed to be searched. A robbery?

Shao Mingzhu couldn't be sure. His memories of the past twelve days were quite hazy.

He stretched out a finger and casually traced the outside edge of his desk, getting a bit of ink on his finger tips.

Hmm, this ink is dry. This means all these papers are a couple of hours old.

Shao Mingzhu's eyes narrowed slightly, and the feeling of being robbed felt more and more certain.

Could one of the papers be the reason why this body was killed?

Shao Mingzhu tugged on one of the drawers with his right hand, and his eyes scanned over the books and pens and his left hand grabbed the small mirror at the back of the drawer and pulled it out.

Taking out the mirror, Shao Mingzhu stretched out his left arm to look at his face.

In his eyes, a reflection of him appeared in his eyes.

A man with messy black hair and pale green eyes appeared in the mirror. His long black hair was scattered around his face, and with the swipe of his right hand, a bit of bruising appeared around his neck that he couldn't see because of his hair.

So I died of strangulation, or is this something the killer did to hide the way he killed me?

Shao Mingzhu was slightly startled when he saw the bruising around his neck, and his right hand trembled as it slowly approached his neck and gave it a light tap with his finger.

Hiss!

A tinge of pain appeared on his face and his hand jolted away from his neck and fell onto the chair that was placed behind him.

Damn, that hurt!

Shao Mingzhu hands clenched onto his pants, and took a deep breath to calm himself down.

I should cover this up. I'm only a Tier one rune master with zero healing or combat power. Shit! Why did this body cultivate runes! Although they can be used in everything and is seen as the supreme path of cultivating, but damn did he have zero talent for it!

Shao Mingzhu complained in his heart. This body has not even practised body refinement which all professions can do!

Of course some professions have an easier time and have a higher upper limit, but as a runes master, he had no benefits from any of the professions and his body talent was pitifully low.

He should've listened to his sister and cultivated the path of Confucianism as he was quite the nerd.
