Chapter 15 - Chapter 15 – The Sky Where Promises Sleep

The merged light burned across the void, scattering the blades of sorrow. Shadow Furi staggered, fragments of darkness peeling off its body.

But instead of fading, the Shadow began to laugh. It was a hollow, broken sound.

"You think you've won? No… you've only torn the veil."

Kento frowned. "What are you hiding?"

The Shadow's body cracked open. From within spilled visions—fragmented memories. A younger Furi and Kento stood beneath a vast, starry sky, their hands clasped, voices trembling as they swore an oath:

"No matter what happens, we'll find each other again. Even if the world ends."

Furi gasped. "That's… my memory…"

But the vision shifted. The stars dimmed. Another figure appeared—a third presence neither had spoken of. A small silhouette, eyes shining with hope, standing beside them during that oath.

"…Wait," Kento whispered. "There was… someone else?"

The Shadow hissed, chains rattling violently.

"Yes… the forgotten one. The promise wasn't made by two… but by three."

The words froze both Kento and Furi.

Memories they could not fully recall pressed against their minds, fragments tearing at their hearts. The silhouette's voice echoed through the void:

"You said you'd never leave me behind…"

Furi fell to his knees, clutching his head.

"I… I don't remember! Why can't I remember?!"

The Shadow spread its arms wide, its form growing immense, merging with the void itself.

"That is the wound. That is why I exist. You swore under the sky—but you forgot one of your own. That betrayal birthed me!"

Kento felt his chest tighten. It wasn't just grief. It was guilt, ancient and unspoken, pressing down on both of them.

"Then…" he whispered, "…this isn't only your shadow, Furi. It's ours."

The void trembled. Above them, the stars flickered into existence—each one dim, as though smothered by dust. The sky itself seemed to hold the sealed promise… waiting to be awakened, or consumed.

The Shadow roared, its voice merging with the cosmos.

"I am the forgotten oath… and I will never let you escape me!"

And with that, the battlefield expanded into a starry abyss, the true heart of the promise revealed.
