Dozens of so-called fearless dragon-like creatures had little chance to resist under the combined assault of Artemis, the Moon Goddess, and Medea. Even the mightiest human heroes would struggle against these monsters, yet they couldn't unleash their full power against this duo of a human and a goddess.
This was only natural. Among the Olympian gods, each possessed distinct authorities, and Artemis, as the Moon Goddess, was one of the most combat-oriented. Her true form was a long range battlecraft-type starship.
Though human perception transformed her authority into a bow and arrow, her attacks were essentially akin to a starship's particle cannon!
Not only were they potent in magical effects, but their physical destructive power was formidable too!
Combined with Medea's relentless bombardment, these dragons, their defenses shattered, couldn't withstand such a dense onslaught. Their inability to resist was perfectly understandable.
At that moment, Artemis' bow flickered briefly before vanishing!
The sudden change startled her, and her expression shifted. "We need to leave! Its authority is still active... it reverse-engineered my attack and stole my bow!"
"Stole it?" Morpheus blinked, recalling a myth.
Typhon had stolen Zeus' thunder, severely weakening the God-King.
"You mean it took your authority, and now you can't fight at full strength?" Morpheus asked, frowning.
"Exactly. We need to get out of here. It's sealed under this mountain and can't come out directly. If we leave, we're safe!" Artemis said, grabbing Medea's arm, ready to whisk her away instantly if needed.
"Relax, I haven't even made my move yet. Chill," Morpheus said with a grin, looking downward.
Soon, a deep, guttural roar echoed, like a beast snarling.
"Artemis, Long Range Interstellar Battlecraft, member of the Olympian fleet… Even Zeus, the fleet's leader, relied on trickery to defeat me in the past. Do you think you alone can challenge me?"
No feminine figure appeared, and the voice didn't suggest femininity either.
Morpheus mused that, given enough time... say, a couple thousand years... Typhon might manifest as a cute girl.
But that was irrelevant. His sole purpose here was to slay Typhon, the King of Monsters!
"No offense, but I came here for you. Ignoring me like that kinda stings, King of Monsters Typhon!"
"Human? A puny creature of this planet, whose fragile body crumbles with a mere touch. Even if you wield magecraft or borrow divine authority for magic, how much power could you possibly have?
"Even the God-King you worship couldn't defeat me head-on. What makes you think you're qualified to challenge me?"
The voice remained low and menacing, followed by a mocking laugh.
"Worship me, and I'll grant you power rivaling the gods. Release me, and you'll rule this world in my name!"
"So, Typhon's got a brain, huh? Knows how to tempt people to break its seal," Morpheus whispered to Artemis, who was puffing her cheeks, clearly fuming over her stolen authority.
"No idea, but it's an AI, right? Coming up with schemes is normal. Otherwise, it wouldn't have nabbed my power first," Artemis replied.
Morpheus smirked. "Fair point. You all fled to Egypt back then, so it makes sense you wouldn't know."
Artemis gritted her teeth, glaring at him. "You're gonna pay for that!"
"Sure, I'll be waiting," Morpheus chuckled, turning his gaze downward.
Medea, watching the exchange, momentarily forgot about Typhon, lost in confusion over their dynamic.
"Why does it feel like Artemis and Morpheus are getting… closer?!"
Then, she reached a conclusion: "Could Artemis be falling for Morpheus too?!"
Given the context of the Greek Age of Gods, such a thought was entirely reasonable for Medea.
Morpheus wasn't thinking that far. He shouted downward, "Sorry, not interested. I'm a magician seeking truth. If you can get me to the top of the Tree of Life, I might consider it."
"Tree of Life? You mean the Yggdrasil?"
"Nope, totally different. It's the origin of everything, from top to bottom, from nothing to existence, forming this world, this universe's great power. If you can return me to that primal nothingness, I might agree."
Typhon fell silent. Morpheus couldn't tell if it was pondering his words or assuming he was mocking it.
After a quiet wait, Typhon's voice returned. "You mean to reach this universe's Root?"
"No, I mean the Root of this world, of infinite worlds... endless parallel universes, infinite multiverses, countless world bubbles, encompassing all, the primal nothingness that birthed it all."
Typhon went silent again. As a mechanical lifeform, even without a physical body, its past knowledge let it grasp the audacity of Morpheus' words. It was like an ant claiming to comprehend the galaxy... no, a thousand times more absurd!
But that didn't stop it from exploiting this human.
"Of course, release me, and I'll guide you to that path. It's not difficult. For me, from another universe, it's merely a slight inconvenience!"
Once free, it would show the Greek gods... this world's gods... what the King of Monsters could do!
…
It was a lifeform that wandered the world, named Lorize. Not human, it was born in a distant future, crafted by a great king.
It had many companions... 72 in total, including itself. Its power allowed it to pierce past and future, observing many events.
It couldn't alter the past but could witness it, for it knew all of history.
Now, it gazed at the volcano below, where a pivotal moment in history unfolded... a tale later called Typhon's demise in Greek mythology, the legend of a mysterious hero alongside the Moon Goddess.
Few records mentioned it, only fragments in obscure texts or on mysterious islands.
An unacknowledged legend, discussed only among a few in the magecraft organization called the Wandering Sea, as if the world meant to forget it.
But this legend was real!
Lorize was witnessing its occurrence!
Oh, and its companions liked to call it Flauros, saying it sounded more human.
…
Morpheus slowly drew his staff, surrounded by mystic codes representing the other elements.
He smiled faintly, shaking his head. "Sorry, I'd rather explore on my own. I reject your offer!"
The earth quaked, the volcano roared, and molten lava erupted, surging toward Morpheus and the others at thousands of degrees!
A magical barrier appeared before them, blocking it all.
It was Medea's magic, her surroundings now transformed into her temple.
But Morpheus didn't linger. He turned into a streak of light, diving downward!
Boom!
The lava parted, unable to touch this mere human's body!
"You don't need to come out... I'll come to you!"
Crash!
With his words, Morpheus plunged into the earth, leaving a crack behind as he vanished!
Artemis gritted her teeth, turning to Medea. "Stay back. If anything goes wrong, head to Olympus and find my brother Apollo!"
If things went south, Apollo was their best bet for a solution.
Without waiting for Medea's protest, she dove into the crack Morpheus had left, chasing after him into the earth.
The underground was pitch black, but light soon appeared.
It came from flowing lava, pouring from the monster's body, pooling and building its strength, awaiting the day of eruption!
Hundreds of dragon heads glared at the figure in the air, their massive body so vast it could be mistaken for an island!
A colossal dragon beast, over 100,000 meters long!
Even after all this time, Typhon's form exuded immense pressure on Artemis!
This was the monster that faced Zeus, nearly ending the Greek Age of Gods!
A kin to her, a fellow machine god!
Facing this beast, Morpheus' lips curled into a grin. Its terrifying aura didn't faze him... it thrilled him!
It was like reliving the final stage of that cultist ritual, feeling the descent of an evil god's power, his blood boiling!
"Here, I declare my magic name; Veritas000, the Seeker of Truth!" Morpheus proclaimed, formally challenging the King of Monsters. "Typhon, who once pursued the gods, come... face me in battle!"
