They say in some comic, this kind of thing is called "having a blast."
Morpheus thought the phrase was spot-on... he'd indeed had a blast.
But that wasn't the point. What mattered was that he was finally back to full energy, ready to tackle other things.
"What are you doing here?" Artemis asked curiously, standing alongside Medea.
This outing wasn't just Morpheus stirring up trouble for himself... it was mainly for Medea. Given the unique nature of the Nasuverse, he wanted to add more remarkable deeds to her record.
They were at a volcano: Mount Etna.
Though Morpheus hadn't attended the Clock Tower, it wasn't out of arrogance. Back at Westminster School, he'd been busy with countless tasks. The four mystic codes representing the elements and his special outfit were a given.
He'd also scoured various libraries, including the Imperial Library, for information. The wealth of resources there allowed him to uncover a trove of knowledge, including details about Greek mythology.
According to the myths he'd studied, Typhon in this world was still alive, imprisoned beneath Mount Etna.
Combined with ancient secrets Artemis had shared, it was confirmed: Typhon was indeed trapped below.
"To spar with Typhon and test my strength," Morpheus said, loosening his joints as he gazed into the volcano's crater. "If possible, I'll kill it."
"That's Typhon! It nearly defeated Zeus himself!" Artemis warned immediately, shocked that Morpheus planned to confront Typhon in such close quarters.
"No worries. Typhon's not as strong as it once was, and I'm no slouch either. Dealing with it won't be a problem!" Morpheus grinned, his eyes gleaming with anticipation. "As for you two, you can attack from a distance. Taking down Typhon would eliminate a major threat, making the future safer, right?"
Medea was stunned by Morpheus' audacity. "You're really going to fight Typhon?!"
"Yep, and you two are coming along. It's no big deal. Worst case, we can't beat it and have to flee... might be a bit embarrassing, but that's all."
Medea didn't think fleeing from Typhon was shameful, and Artemis nodded in agreement. But Morpheus was clearly set on his plan, showing no intention of backing down.
Medea couldn't sway him, and Artemis, who loved adventure and was a goddess herself, figured she could pull them out if things got dangerous. So, the trio descended into the volcano together.
The volcano slumbered only because the monster below did. If that creature awoke, roaring in fury and struggling, the volcano would erupt once more!
They hadn't gone far when they met resistance.
Dragon Tooth Soldiers... monsters crafted from dragon teeth through magecraft... blocked their path. They possessed immense strength and durability far beyond any human's.
Their bones were harder than steel, and their weapons, made of the same material, surpassed steel in strength.
A few could be handled by humans, but in large numbers, they could overwhelm with ease!
At the volcano's base, thousands of these Dragon Tooth Soldiers stood in dense ranks, a daunting sight.
Seeing this, Artemis drew her weapon, her voice cold. "It never surrendered, always trying to break free, and now it's amassed this many soldiers!"
These were Typhon's creations, its army!
Medea gripped her Hecate Staff, summoning magical arrays around her. From these arrays, magical arrows formed, aimed at the soldiers below.
As someone highly skilled in both magic and magecraft, Medea knew their weaknesses. Without hesitation, she unleashed her attack!
"Leave this to me. Save your strength!" Medea's voice was firm and confident. Her magical arrows rained down like a storm, each strike accompanied by a deafening roar, shattering the Dragon Tooth Soldiers one by one.
Her prowess shone brilliantly, a relentless torrent of magic that devoured any enemy in her path. She was a force equal to a hundred magi!
Amid the booming onslaught, the soldiers... mere dead constructs... fell apart as their magical nodes were destroyed.
Medea, seasoned from the Gigantomachy, was now far more composed and steady.
Morpheus nodded silently, thrilled by her progress. Artemis, seeing Medea's response, felt reassured but readied an arrow, prepared to step in if needed.
However, the soldiers' destruction didn't bring peace. It triggered an ancient seal, causing more Dragon Tooth Soldiers to surge from the ground like sprouting weeds. Winged bone dragons took flight, aiming to drag the trio into despair.
Medea didn't falter. Her eyes blazed with resolve, her magical arrows intensifying, as if to tear the very space apart.
After relentless bombardment, the thousands of soldiers and bone dragons were eradicated, leaving only debris and lingering smoke.
But this was just the beginning. A deep roar from the volcano's depths signaled an even greater terror awakening.
As the earth trembled, an unprecedented oppressive force enveloped them, like a predator at the top of the food chain stirring.
The roar, like a call from the abyss, was the cry of an ancient, powerful being yearning for freedom. When the first red dragon burst from the ground, the space seemed to ignite, flames and icy dragon breath intertwining in an apocalyptic scene.
Artemis acted without hesitation. Her arrow turned into a streak of light, piercing the dragon and slamming its body into the ground.
The impact, combined with Artemis' strike, shattered the volcano's floor. Cracks spread, revealing more dragons emerging!
These dragons were colossal, their wings blotting out the sky, heads raised high, horns glinting coldly. Their very existence was a defiance of life itself.
Dozens appeared at once, their roars forming an unstoppable sonic flood, shaking the earth and triggering the volcano's eruption, as if the world were under their dominion.
Medea's eyes widened. She'd never witnessed such a breathtaking scene.
But she didn't retreat. Instead, she tightened her grip on her staff. Though she thought Morpheus was taking a risk, she trusted he could handle it, and she trusted Artemis could too.
She might be the weakest here, but Medea wouldn't give up. Channeling her magical energy, she prepared for the coming battle.
She was Hecate's priestess, Morpheus' lover, his girlfriend... and a magician with extraordinary talent. No matter how weak, she'd prove her worth!
Even against these formidable monsters, she wouldn't back down!
Guided by the girl, magical energy flowed, forming fiercer arrows aimed at the creatures below. The bombardment began!
"You're not joining in?" Artemis asked.
"Nah, let you two handle it. These are dragons, crafted by Typhon. Killing them earns dragon-slaying merits... multiple ones at that!" Morpheus grinned, holding back. Killing them wouldn't benefit him much, and he wanted Medea to gain more unique abilities.
He was like someone trying to etch tags like "Dragon Slayer," "God Slayer," or "Giant Slayer" into Medea's Root record.
Not just because he'd promised Hecate to look after her, but because she was his friend... and his girlfriend!
As for Artemis? She was a dear friend too!
A goddess of her stature, following a mortal like him without hesitation, deserved some appreciation.
"Fine, but you'd better be ready. If Typhon shows up, it's on you," Artemis said, aiming her arrows precisely at the dragons' limbs, attacking without pause.
With the Moon Goddess here, not one of these so-called fearless dragons would take flight!
They were all pinned to the ground, perfect targets for Medea's magical barrage!
