"Makayla hurry up I don't want to be late. I swear if I'm late I'm gonna ki..." Lucy's words trailed off as she gasped at the sight before her.
"Holy molly,Mak, is that really you. You look like an ethereal goddess. She exclaimed.
"Oh please don't exaggerate it . I know I'm looking beautiful today but you don't have to compare me to a goddess. "Makayla said as she raised the skirt of her dress and exited her room.
"Do you think he's going to like me more?"Makayla asked her friend Lucy for assurance.
"Are you kidding me? He is going to worship you. It's either he is dumb or gay to reject or not fall in love with you"Lucy said and they both giggled.
"I hope you are right " Mak said as they went downstairs and everyone that saw them was astonished by the beauty and aura.
"Oh my God,my girls are now queens. You ladies look beautiful" Mrs Brown ,Mak's mother exclaimed with pride.
"Thanks Mrs. Brown. We owe it to your wonderful makeup skills "Lucy said
"It's my pleasure dear now you girls go have fun " Mrs.Brown bade.
"Wow sis,I never knew you could look this beautiful. I wish you weren't my sister. I would have dated you already". Everyone busted into laughter with the little boy's joke.
"Oh Micheal,you really mean that? thank you so much for your compliment. " Mak said as she went and gave her seven year old brother a kiss on his cheek.
"Now you ladies don't want to be late for your prom night. chop chop in the car now."Mr. Brown said as he headed outside the room to the garage.
"Bye Mrs. Brown,bye Michael" Lucy waved as she exited the room. She was already family to the Browns. She and Makayla had been best friends since they were three.
"Yeah you girls have fun at the party"Mrs.Brown said and when she lost sight of the two princesses,she turned her head towards her son and continued to watch television.
The girls together with Mak's dad had soon got to the school where the prom was being held and without any second, Lucy got out of the car . Mak was about to follow suit when her dad stopped her.
"Makayla,this is your first prom night and I hope it goes well for you.My little caterpillar has grown into a beautiful butterfly" Her father said with tears threatening to fall.
"Come on dad,Lucy is here don't disgrace yourself"Makayla rebuked her father when she realized he was on the verge of tears.
"Can't help it . "He said as he tried to stop the tears.
"Be careful dear have fun but not too much fun. No drugs and sex"He warned.
"Dad!!. Stop that,you are making me feeling uneasy.Mak exclaimed in embarrassment
"Sorry dear but please be careful and if anything feels wrong don't hesitate to call your mom or I " he advised his daughter
"Okay dad I will"Mak said,impatience evident in her tone.
"Someone is in a haste" he said sarcastically.
"I am,don't want the party to go on without me. I might be missing out the fun part" she retorted.
"Trust me my dear,it hasn't even started."
"Uhm Mr. Brown,sorry to interrupt your father daughter moment but we are going to be late" Lucy outside the car, explained in a quiet yet alarming tone.
"Fine,I won't keep you girls waiting. But before you go,give your father a kiss. "He said motioning for a kiss from his daughter.
Sighing, Makayla had no choice but to give her dad a sharp kiss and get out of the car.
"I will be coming for you girls at nine pm. Be careful and I love you Mak."Mr. Brown said as he made a turn .
"I love you too.bye" Mak said as she watched her dad leave her sight.
"Ah,finally,now that he's gone,it's time for some party time."Lucy said.
"I'm really feeling uneasy.hold my hands. What if he doesn't like me?"Makayla asked worriedly.
"Chillax girl you are really stunning today.Even Barbie and the other Disney princess can't be compared to you" She joked and they laughed which cleared the air somehow.
"Now hold my hand. Anytime you feel stressed,remember to breath in and out and have fun with Justin Parker,the hottest guy in the school."Lucy said as she clasped her hand to her bestie's own.
This made Mak calm down a little and she respired for awhile.
The girls adjusted their gowns as they were ready to show the world what they were truly made of.
They turned their heads towards their school and gasped at the sight that was before them.
"OMG,Is this really Sunflower High,who knew they could decorate it to this extent. Principal Beems has really outdone herself" Lucy exclaimed in astonishment.
"It looks like a castle.I'm flabbergasted"Mak said in awe
"Hey, we came to have fun not learn new vocabs,drop the huge English words. Mrs.Richards isn't here to take records" Lucy said
"Oh come on it simply means'surprised',it's not my fault you don't read books" Mak jokingly scorned.
"I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that. Now we have three hours to have the best fun in our lives before your dad returns. Let's make the best out of It okay" Lucy suggested and her friend nodded.
The two girls breathing in and out,modelled majestically towards the school hallway and once they entered,the whole place was silent as everyone starred at them.
Even the deejay stopped the music to see why everyone stopped dancing and he realized why.
This added to the nervousness of Makayla.
"Why is everyone starring at us?"she whispered to her bestie.
"Duh,because we are literally princesses now. Act natural and don't screw this up for me. I really need to win this prom queen"Lucy whispered back.
For Lucy,this was what mattered to her. She was the type of teenage girl who cared about people's opinions and always wanted to be accepted. She was the fashionista of the school. All she cared about was fame ,power and beauty . Boys drooled over her whilst the girls envied and feared her. This was because her father owned the richest hotel in the city.Therefore no one dared to cross her.
Makayla on the other hand was the exact opposite of Lucy in terms of what they like. Mak was the bookworm of the school. She always had first position and won contests for the school. She didn't care about fashion and all the things it came with. Her main focus was to become a medical doctor and she was willing to go for that dream no matter what it takes.
These two were different altogether. Makayla was the all humble,respectful,obedient, meek and timid girl.She was every teachers' favorite.
Whilst Lucy was the proud,arrogant,strong,badass, naughty and bold girl. Most teachers feared to rebuked her because of her status.
It was always a wonder how this two become best friends. Well as the saying goes,liked poles repel and unliked poles attract.
"There is your prince charming" Lucy said as she signaled Mak to look at where she was looking.
Her heart fluttered when she saw Justin. He looked handsome as ever. This prom night seemed promising.
