A world of endless darkness.

A small white light floated in the void, glowing like a flame in the night.

That light… was none other than Son Goku.

To be precise—GT Goku.

In his world, a terrible disaster had struck… the Shadow Dragon Rebellion.

During his final battle with the strongest of them all, the Omega Shenron, Goku was swallowed by the Negative Energy Ball. His body was destroyed. His soul should've been gone forever.

But when he opened his eyes, he found himself in this strange place.

"This… this isn't Other World. Where am I?" Goku looked around in confusion. Even if he had died, shouldn't he have gone to King Yemma's office?

Suddenly, a voice echoed in the darkness.

"Son Goku… Son Goku…"

"Who's there?!" Goku clenched his fists, his voice sharp as he walked toward the sound.

He didn't know how long he had been wandering, but then—he saw it.

A small point of light shining in the distance.

Drawn by instinct, Goku reached out his hand.

The instant he touched it, a burst of blinding light swallowed him whole.

776 A.D. – North Kai's Planet

This world's Son Goku was in the middle of training with King Kai as usual. But suddenly, he collapsed. His body went limp and his heartbeat stopped.

"G-Goku? Hey, don't joke around!" King Kai panicked. He used his telepathy to scan Goku's body—only to realize it wasn't a joke. His disciple had no heartbeat.

Just as King Kai was about to try something, Goku's heart started beating again. His body trembled, and his eyes slowly opened.

"…Where am I?" Goku muttered in a daze, his eyes unfocused.

At that moment, something strange was happening. He was Goku… but also not Goku. To be exact, he was GT Goku, inside the body of this timeline's Goku.

"Wait… Lord Kai?!" GT Goku's eyes widened. Memories rushed into his head, mixing with his own. His skull pounded with pain until sweat dripped from his face.

Slowly, he understood.

He had traveled back in time—fourteen years ago.

This was two years after the defeat of Majin Buu.

"Goku, are you okay?" King Kai asked nervously.

"I-I'm fine, Lord Kai," Goku rubbed his head.

"Good! Don't scare me like that again. Let's stop training for today. You need rest."

Normally, Goku would argue and insist on training more, but this time he nodded.

"…Yeah. You're right."

King Kai blinked in shock. Since when does Goku ever agree that easily?

Minutes later, GT Goku had accepted the truth.

[So I've gone back fourteen years… Whatever the reason, I won't let the same tragedy happen again.]

He clenched his fists.

[Even if the Shadow Dragons appear, I'll crush them with my own power!]

But what he didn't know…

This wasn't the past of his GT world.

This was a completely different timeline—one filled with Gods of Destruction, Angels, and the Omni-King.

Goku walked to an open space, his aura flaring up.

Golden light surged around him.

"Haah!!"

With a crack of lightning, he turned Super Saiyan.

Then in an instant, he pushed higher—Super Saiyan 2… and Super Saiyan 3.

His long golden hair and glowing aura shook the ground beneath him.

But his face darkened. "…This is all the power I've got right now? Compared to before, this isn't even one-tenth…"

King Kai's eyes widened. "H-Hey, Goku! What's with that look? You seem… different."

Goku looked at him and smiled. "Don't worry, Lord Kai. I just thought of a way to break through my limits. If it works… I might be able to go beyond Super Saiyan 3."

Hearing this, King Kai tilted his head. Goku's sudden coma earlier had him curious, but maybe it gave his student some kind of new idea.

"Oh? So what's this method of yours? Maybe I can help out," King Kai said.

"King Kai, I think I figured out why Super Saiyan 3 drains so much energy," Goku explained seriously. "I'm not… complete. That's why I can't perfect it."

"Not complete? What do you mean, Goku?" King Kai asked, confused.

Goku didn't answer with words. He just looked back and motioned toward his backside.

King Kai's eyes went wide. "…Your tail?"

"That's right," Goku nodded. "The Supreme Kai had it removed with special magic years ago. It's never grown back. But if I had my tail again, I'm sure I could push my power further."

Back when he first mastered the Super Saiyan form, Goku thought his tail was a weakness. Something unnecessary… even dangerous. He had trained himself to suppress it for years until the spot had completely closed up. Growing it back now would be no easy task.

But after Old Kai forcibly restored it once, Goku finally understood how important the tail truly was to a Saiyan's power.

King Kai folded his arms and thought for a moment. "You Saiyans… you always had a legend about the full moon, about showing your true power when your tails are intact. Maybe you're right. Maybe the tail is still an important piece of your strength."

He frowned. "But it's been so many years. It might never grow back on its own. Hm… I might know a few people across the universe who can help, though."

"If it means you getting stronger, I'll do whatever I can, Goku. You're my student, after all! And when I brag to the other Kais, I want them to know my student's the strongest!"

Goku smiled. "Thanks, King Kai. But you don't have to worry about it. I just need to borrow the Dragon Balls."

"Dragon Balls?" King Kai blinked. "You'd use them for something as small as growing a tail? There are plenty of folks out there with special powers who could help you with that."

Goku shook his head. "I don't want the Dragon Balls just for my tail. I've been meaning to bring you back, King Kai. It's been long enough."

King Kai froze, his jaw dropping.

"I still feel bad about what happened with Cell," Goku admitted with a sheepish laugh, scratching the back of his head. "You only died because of me… so I wanna fix that."

King Kai's round face softened. "…Goku… you…" For years he thought Goku had forgotten about his death. But now, after all this time, Goku still carried the guilt.

If King Kai could read his thoughts, though, he'd probably be yelling at him.

"Alright then, King Kai. I'll head back to Earth first," Goku said, giving him a wave. In an instant, he locked onto Bulma's energy and vanished with Instant Transmission.

Earth

Since Majin Buu's defeat two years ago, the planet had finally entered a peaceful age.

On the surface, Mr. Satan had become Earth's great savior. Thanks to Shenron, the memories of Buu's destruction had been erased from humanity. Even Fat Buu had settled into a quiet life among the people.

Everyone else had gone back to their normal lives.

Krillin was working as a police officer in West City.

Tien and Chiaotzu opened a martial arts school, teaching ordinary people.

Gohan had turned back to his studies. His relationship with Videl was getting closer every day, and marriage was already being discussed. Training, however, had slipped away from him again. His power was fading.

Piccolo had chosen to stay at Kami's Lookout, training in solitude. He knew he would never catch up to the Saiyans, but he refused to stop pushing his limits.

And then there was Vegeta. Ever since Goku defeated Majin Buu, Vegeta had accepted—just barely—that Kakarot was stronger. But as the proud Prince of Saiyans, he refused to remain second forever. Day after day, he trained with brutal focus, determined to one day surpass him.

At Capsule Corp, in Bulma's private estate, Vegeta's gravity chamber roared with energy as he pushed himself further.

Bulma, meanwhile, was lounging outside with a cool blue drink, enjoying a rare moment of peace.

Suddenly—

Whoosh!

A burst of air signaled someone's arrival.

"Yo, Bulma!" Goku greeted cheerfully, appearing right in front of her.

"Goku?!" Bulma nearly dropped her drink. Goku never showed up like this unless he needed something.

She pulled off her sunglasses, narrowing her eyes at him. "Well, this is a surprise. What brings you here all of a sudden?"

"I came to borrow the Dragon Radar," Goku said simply, smiling as always. "There's something I need Shenron's help with."
