Chapter 33 - Shadow Lynx(1)

The kids continued their massacre until nightfall. By now, it was fairly unlikely that anyone would perceive them as those who had just awakened hours ago.

Currently, the group was lying on a large rock in a bid to recover lost energy as they listened to the sounds of beasts and humanoids.

Although the horde had been severely thinned out, it was still very much present, but these kids really couldn't be bothered.

A circle of undead and spirits guarded them, ending any strays that came their way, while the rest of their little squad continued to tear up the small fry.

"You didn't tell you guys were summoners," Tara said as she looked up into the sky.

Luck shrugged placidly in response, "You didn't ask."

"We actually did try to, but then the horde thing came up," Luke added hurriedly, sensing the discontent with Luck's response.

"Why didn't you just show it to us earlier?" Harry questioned with a slight frown settling into his features."I mean, you two had awakened for almost a month if what you said was true."

"Are you daft?!" Luck said almost immediately, his tone laced with irritation."You think this was our decision to make? Even if it was, why should I when I need to get a leg-up on the competition?"

Silence pervaded the air as the words left Luck's mouth, leaving Luke to break into a cold sweat. Although they were all used to Luck's antisocial behaviour by now, it was still hard to stomach that. No normal person would.

Fortunately or unfortunately, Harry was far from having a normal mentality. No normal person would bother trying to befriend someone of that temperament.

Harry grinned smugly, " Glad we're such a threat that Mr Talented had to take defensive measures against us."

"Shut up," Luck muttered under his breath, causing the group to chuckle.

Since we're still on the topic, why don't we show each other our soul books?" Tara suggested. They nodded in agreement, and within minutes, everyone had shared their status amongst themselves.

"You guys are already in the Meta rank ?" Harry voiced out in disbelief.

"Your headstart should be considered cheating," Terra added.

"No fair!" Tara said as she pouted.

Luck smirked in the face of these complaints. He really enjoyed being the strongest.

His smile suddenly froze. Something had just entered his perception range. A moving black mass of shadow as it sped towards their direction.

(That ain't Kira.) Luck thought as his eyes darted towards his own shadow, where the shadow wolf was currently sleeping. She had come there almost immediately, as she was actually evolving.

"Everybody run," Luck voiced out with calm panic as Asher quickly leapt towards the shadow.

The shadow suddenly rose, morphing into two meter tall black lynx as it calmly swung its paw at Asher.

The attack seemed slow, but the Skeleton Fighter had to hurriedly place his sword up in defense.

*Bang*

Asher exploded upon contact, sending bones flying everywhere.\

Luck's eyes constricted, witnessing the scene of Asher being ripped apart like papier mache.

[Error! Power level too high to inspect!]

This time, his pupils turned into pinholes. His Appraisal skill was strong enough to now scan C-rank beasts and below without a problem.

Which basically meant that this lynx was at least a B-rank threat.

(Survive?!) Luck thought incredulously. Even his own body didn't believe he could win this.

"Tara, I need you to run and get the guards," Luck said suddenly. They were currently. After seeing what happened to Asher, they didn't need to be told that the lynx spelled instant death.

"What about you guys?" She retorted in a mixture of confusion and worry.

"We'll have to stay behind and distract that big cat."

"Huh?!" Harry exclaimed as he glared at Luck with enough intensity to burn holes into him. "Who said I wanted to fight with you? Why can't I go call for help? You didn"t even ask for volunteers!"

"Aside from Luke and me, Tara is the fastest amongst you. Us o the other hand, are needed elsewhere."

"Wait! I can run fast too! I just need to figure out how to make an ice path and maybe also figure out how to skate..."

Luck glanced at him with a look of indifference as his eyes darted back to Tara. He nodded.

She nodded back in response.

*Crackle*

Lightning flickered upon Tara, causing Harry's pleas to grow fiercer.

Unfortunately for him, it fell on deaf ears.
