Chapter 4 - Confrontation at the Camp: The Mystery of the Abandoned Child

Alice was worried because the kid didn't stop crying. Angela suggested, "Maybe he's hungry."

After hearing this, Alice asked Reyand, "Dear, what should we do?"

Adam suddenly said, "What's the problem? We'll just give him milk."

Jasmine interrupted, "Stupid, this is a very young baby; he can only drink pure milk, like mother's milk."

Durden asked, "Then what will we do?"

Helena said, "I have an idea. We can give him normal milk but use Alice's healing magic to purify it." She warned, "It uses a large amount of mana, though."

They followed Helena's advice, and it worked. The baby stopped crying and soon fell asleep

Alice and the others stayed with him inside the tent. Reyand asked Alice to stay with the baby through the night in case he woke again. Alice nodded quietly.

The others moved out of the tent, and Alice covered the sleeping baby with a soft blanket.

Later, Reyand asked, "What should we do with the baby now?"

Jasmine replied, "I don't know who left him alone or why."

Silence fell over the group until Durden spoke up, "Maybe the next village is going to be attacked by mobs and bandits. Someone could have abandoned the baby to protect him."

Everyone nodded in agreement.

Reyand said firmly, "In the morning, we'll all go into the forest to search for clues."

Everyone agreed. Helena added, "For now, let's rest in our tents."

There were five tents in the camp, and one by one, all the adventurers headed to their assigned places.

The next morning, Alice woke to a soft touch on her cheeks. She opened her eyes and saw the baby smiling as he gently touched her face.

His bright smile warmed Alice's heart as the morning sun streamed into the tent. "Oh, you're awake," she said softly. "Looks like you want to play with me."

The baby clapped his hands like he was nodding yes.

"Oh, my boy, you're so cute," Alice said with a loving smile.

From the other side of the tent, Reyand stirred awake and asked sleepily, "What's happening, dear?"

Alice grinned brightly, "Look, he's playing with me."

Reyand gave a surprised smile as he watched the two. Then he stepped closer to the baby and teased, "You silly fox, stealing my wife from me in just ten hours."

Alice blushed deeply, and the baby responded with soft mumbling sounds: "aaa… ooo… aa," as if understanding.

After a few minutes, they stepped out of the tent together. Angela greeted them cheerfully, "Oh dear, you're awake!"

The baby's bright blue eyes, pale face, plump cheeks, and joyful smile melted everyone's hearts.

Helena smiled and said thoughtfully, "He's going to be quite a charming man someday."

Alice nodded, sharing a quiet laugh with the group.

Soon, they all prepared to move toward the forest again, with Durden carrying the baby on his back.

As they ventured deeper, they found many dead animals, half-eaten and scattered. The forest floor was a complete mess
