ARIA
My lashes fluttered, my eyes throbbed. They were heavy, like pebbles had been placed on each.
"Do you think it's a good idea to take her to the pack house? She's a rogue."
"The Alpha knows best."
I heard muffled voices. I pondered who they were talking about and desired to be a part of the conversation. But my mouth opened, and I could only hear a rasp slip out.
I looked up, seeing branches swaying above me. The world tilted, then it turned dark once again.
—
When I clawed my way back, everything thudded. The ground, footsteps, steady beating of heart…was that mine? I couldn't even tell.
My cheek was pressed against a warm, solid back. I dragged in a deep breath, sniffing in a manly cologne.
I opened my dim eyes, turning. Pain lanced through my side, and I moaned.
"Aria. Aria, wake up. You dirty fat pig!" I heard Selene's furious voice and the familiar clacking of her heels across the floor.
I tried to respond to her, to stay awake, but my eyes closed again.
