Silver rose from her seat. The Duke towering directly at her.
"Y-your answer?" she repeated almost stumbling her words. A knot of anxiety tightened in her stomach, unsure if she should be happy that he finally have an answer or sad because the answer might be no.
"I'll do it," he stated, the words clipped and devoid of emotion, his gaze locking onto hers with unnerving intensity.
Silver blinked, hardly daring to believe it. "You will?"
His lips tightened, a flicker of annoyance crossing his features at having to repeat himself.
"As long as you promise to keep your end of the bargain."
Silver's exhaled deeply like a burden was finally lifted off her shoulders, finally one less thing to worry about.
"Then it's settled," she replied, a small, victorious smile tugging at the corners of her lips. If he had refused, she wasn't sure what desperate measure she would have resorted to. Her ways isn't exactly morally sound but it does the job.
