Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: My Sister

Detective Cheng sat across from An Jian observing her "Before I can give you the details, you have to give me something first"

An Jian stared into his eyes almost causing the detective to blush.

The detective then continued "I need you to tell me about yourself and what you know about Li Zhao and how is he connected to your sister"

An Jian wasn't sure if the Detective would believe her but she decided to tell the story as she knew it.

I am the 4th General of Great Wen, I was born weak and sickly and spent most of my early years in bed. My sister An Hao 3 years older than me was a prodigy pupil to my father a great internal kungfu master in the kingdom. At only 10yrs old she was already beating men twice, three times her age. Many said she would be destined to even outshine my father, however this would never happen. My sister was secretly researching on her own to cure me of my sickness. She had read every kungfu and medical manual she could get her hands on, reading late into the night under candle light until she found a cure. The cure would involve transferring her own internal energy potential to me rendering her unable to practice true internal martial arts. She argued with my father who didn't want to see her lose her potential, but my condition was worsening and he finally agreed.

The procedure worked as expected, my sister lost her internal energy but could still live a normal life without martial arts. I regained my strength and practice kungfu with some competency. I soon would be transferred to a school for the top marital arts and academic students in the kingdom. Although my sister couldn't learn martial arts, she also came to the same school to learn medicine. This is where we met Li Zhao, him and I competed for the top rank in martial arts while he and my sister would compete for the top rank in medicine." An Jian then said proudly "Actually my sister usually out ranked him as she was just too competent and hard working, continuously reading late into the night, neither I or Li Zhao could compete with that" An Jian looked back at the detective and continued grimly "When Li Zhao's mother passed away Li Zhao himself became very ill, some believe he had tried to poison himself out of grief, it was my sister who nursed him back to life. From then on they would always be by each other's side. Everyone expected them to marry, however I would sometimes hear them sneaking out and arguing. This happened night after night until I decided to confront them as their arguments intensified. I thought maybe I could talk peace into whatever they had concerned over."An Jian paused and looked down to her fist "This was the night my sister disappeared, when I reached the shouting, my sister was gone, only her scarf was left held in Li Zhao's hand. When he spotted me he took off. I believe he killed my sister, I haven't seen my sister since and shortly after, many reports came in about people having there life force drained into a dried husk. Li Zhao was practicing dark internal arts that didn't come from one's own internal life force, but the despair and fear passed on in this world through cruelty. I had hunted him for years following the trail of corpses showing signs of the three dark internal kungfu techniques I had mentioned. As I narrowed in on him with no escape, he finally open a portal to this world and I followed.

An Jian looked at the detectives eyes observing his reaction "And that is how I am here before you"

Detective Cheng leaned back into his chair unsure what to think. Was this a metaphor for something that had happened to her, was this a story something she made up in her head? however she really did know a Li Zhao, was this just a coincidence?

He then put his hands through his hair and finally leaned forward "Let say I believe you, then does that mean you are some great kungfu master?"

An Jian smiled "I like to be humble but yes you could say that"

Detective looked unconvinced "Then prove it"

An Jian looked around the apartment "What would you like me to do?"

Detective Cheng then looked around the room as well and remembered, he had punching pads he had once used in boxing. He got up went to his room came back and held one pad in his hand and asked An Jian "hit it"

An Jian looked at him smirked "That won't do, I might break your hand"

Detective Cheng laughed then sighed "Then what can you do" in disbelief

An Jian looked around the room and found a pen, she looked at his apartment but didn't dare break anything, "Is there something you wouldn't mind me hitting with this?"

The detective understanding she was going to throw the pen at something wasn't super worried, pointed to a hardcover book on the table as he stood it up vertically by it's pages. "How about this book" with a laugh still doubting the story and laughing at the thought he was even entertaining it.

An Jian took the pen and threw it at the book, just as the detective was anticipating the book on the table to maybe flop over, the glass table underneath the book exploded causing him to jump out of his seat falling to the floor.

An Jian looking worried "Sorry sorry I accidentally went too hard to trying to impress you, I only meant to hit the book, I promise"

Detective Cheng finally got up still in shock, walked over to the table and picked up the book. It indeed did have a hole through it, and the pen was actually lodged into his hard wood floors. The pen was just an ordinary cheap plastic pen, it wasn't even abnormally sharp or hard he thought.

Without realizing it he said it out loud "Am I in a dream, a beautiful kungfu master is in my apartment.. just exploded my table using a pen?"

An Jian was caught off guard by that comment, especially about the part of her being beautiful

Detective Cheng walked to a closet door and pulled out a broom and dustpan and began cleaning up the glass, every few minutes looking at An Jian to make sure she was still there and not in his imagination.

An Jain seeing him look at her cried out "I'm sorry I really didn't mean to, I just wanted to hit the book".

The detective didn't look at her but said "Don't sweat it, I'm just unsure about my own sanity"

He finished the sweeping then sat back down on his couch.

An Jian walked over and bent down to look at him closely to see if he had suddenly gotten ill.Detective Cheng then raised his finger and lightly pushed on An Jian's forehead, was she real?

"How about we call it a night, you take my bed room, I can sleep here on the sofa"

An Jian looked at the bed room and assumed that was his normal quarters and the sofa was temporary. An Jian pointed to the sofa and said she could sleep there. The detective ignore her already grabbing pillows and a blanket for himself and plopped on the sofa and fell asleep.

An Jian seeing there wasn't going to be a change to their arrangements went to his bed room and lied down, she could smell the bed was covered in a hint of his cologne and she blushed a little before closing her eyes and falling asleep.
