Chapter 31 - Chapter 31

Jayne looked down at her phone and realized it was getting late. She called out for Eva but there was no response, she and Lydia exchanged glance, they both went to go check up on her as if they spoke telepathically.

They decided to split up. Jane walked around until she saw a shadow in a corner, she walked closer to it "Eva…?" she called slowly has she walked closer.

Jayne took a brave turn not sure who she might find and her eyes widened in awe. It didn't take long to for Lydia to notice starstruck Jane staring at a figure. She approached and as soon as her eyes fell on Eva, her jaws dropped in bewilderment.

She was wearing the dress she found. It looked like the dress was made just for her. Its vermillion red silk wrapped around her gave only one word – Elegance. The helm of the dress swirled with grace as she checked herself out in front of the mirror. It felt like Lydia and Jane felt like they were staring beauty itself.

"Do you think this is ok?" she asked, calling them both back to reality. "I am guessing that is the dress" Jayne said smiling with a mix of awe and excitement. Lydia nodded in agreement.

"Of course, it is. Why would you even ask that?" Jayne replied, she walked up to Eva with Jane admiring how the dress suited her white her and bright crimson eyes.

"You look beautiful, Eva, now go take it off so we can pay." Lydia said making Eva's face flush. She nodded and headed back into the dressing room.

Jane then turned to Jayne and asked. "Were her eyes always red and her hair white?"

"Yeah. She usually hides it from everyone though. It was… hard for her; growing up." Jayne answered. "I… see" Lydia answered, still a bit confused. "I could've sworn it was brown when she came in." She thought to herself.

After a few minutes, Eva came out of the dressing room and handed the dress back to Lydia.

"I could find something else…?" Eva suggested. "-No need!" Jayne cut her off… Lydia nodded before excusing herself to packing their dresses.

They walked home after their little outing. After walking in silence for a while, Jayne asked "Why does your hair randomly change color from time to time?". Eva's eyes widen as she noticed she hadn't been paying attention to her form. Jaune spoke again.

"You know? I was going to tell you to stick to one color of dye before but after today, I'm not convinced at all. I could've sworn your hair was brown when we walked into the store; even Lydia noticed."

"What is happening to you? What are you hiding?" Jayne asked worriedly holding Eva hand "I…I'm fine, it's just… complicated" Eva said looking for a reasonable excuse to give.

"I am not asking you to tell me. If you trust me enough, you would have already told me. I just want to be there for you" Jayne said before walking off.

Eva felt guilt; her gaze fell. The whole 'demon' thing was really messing with her life and deep down, as much as she tried to deny it, she knew couldn't ignore it forever.

Eva sighed and started walking again, wanting to catch up to her. Eva caught up to Jayne but couldn't bring herself to say anything, so Jayne spoke first. "I didn't tell you about my family because I didn't want you to see me differently." "Why would I see you differently?" Eva asked.

"My parents never around; they don't even know grade I am in. Afterall, all they care about are my grades and all. But I am not really smart and my parents find it an anchor to their boat."

Eva was slightly processing everything she was hearing.

"So, anything that makes me come out on top, they are ready to do it." Jayne added

"So that was why you said they would be cool if I stayed with you, you would just tell them I was the one helping you to study…" Eva said piecing the puzzle together.

"Yeah."

"Why are you suddenly telling me all this?" Eva asked

"Because you are my friend, and even if it hasn't been very long since we met, you've made me feel safe and with you I can always be myself around you. I… I just want you to be free with me too" Jayne said, her eyes glistening with tears her pride won't let out.

Eva stopped and took a deep breath. The silence that followed was like an eternity. "…I… am a demon…" She confessed, coming to a halt. Jayne turned to Eva with her eyebrows raised. "I said 'be free with me' not 'indulge me in silly fantasies'."

"I… am not joking, Jayne. I am being dead serious right now. We both know there isn't a logical reason for everything that is happening to me…"

"So, you concluded you were a demon?! Do I look like an idiot?"

"I was told I was a demon, I can't really explain because I'm not so sure about it either." Eva said walking towards Jayne. Jayne saw the seriousness in her eyes; she wanted to believe her but the thought of Eva being a demon was absurd.

She knew Eva was not the kind to come up with weird things like this, a demon "how, when, and who the hell told her that?" Jayne asked herself

Eva saw in her eyes she was struggling to accept what she had just said. Her world seemed to spin for a bit as she stood there, trying to process what she couldn't even accept. Her bestie was a demon? who on hell would believe that?

"Fine I believe you, so what are you going to do about the fact that you are wearing the dress tomorrow."

Eva thought for a while then said "well, I heard cosplaying is in season…"
