Chapter 12 - The Bald Father-in-Law and the Elimination Plan

It was Friday again. Five days had passed since Bill's trial, and for those five days, Meng Ran had been researching the Crocodile Gang.

He hadn't known anything about computers before, with his only experience limited to a few single-player games.

However, he used his points to learn computer skills to find Bill, immediately leveling them up to advanced. Now, gathering information was second nature.

Plus, with Little White as his assistant, his data-gathering work went very smoothly.

After a few days, it seemed Bill's residence was too remote because Meng Ran hadn't seen any related news reports yet.

Actually, it wasn't as Meng Ran thought. Bill's body had been discovered on Wednesday, but the police had suppressed the news due to the brutality of the crime.

Back to Wednesday afternoon.

George received a report from his subordinates about a very serious case that required his personal attention.

George and his subordinates drove to the crime scene, grumbling about his team. He didn't understand why he had to handle every case himself. Were these people even doing their jobs?

They arrived shortly after. The location was remote, so there weren't many people present, only the person who reported the crime and the police who had set up a perimeter.

George walked towards the house while listening to a report from a black police officer.

"Sir, the person who reported the crime is Larry Beard. He was driving around when he smelled a strong scent of blood coming from this house, along with the stench of decaying flesh, so he called it in."

As the police officer spoke, another officer ran out, clutching his mouth, nearly colliding with George.

George looked at the reporting officer, and the sound of the other officer vomiting could be heard.

"Is he new? He's more fragile than my six-year-old daughter," George asked.

The black officer wanted to say something, but he didn't.

George watched him, wanting to speak but hesitating. "What's wrong? I know you have something to say."

Little White said, "Nothing. It's just the crime scene is a bit... emmmm, I threw up too."

George sneered, "Hmph! A bunch of sissies. Judging by how little you've seen, you probably haven't been to many crime scenes. It's embarrassing to throw up like that."

With that, George continued walking inside. When he reached the door of the room, even George's expression couldn't help but change.

The curtains in the room were drawn, leaving only a small slit as the only light source for the bedroom. Blood splattered on the bedroom walls and curtains, and the dried blood on the floor had turned black. If you didn't look closely, you'd think a black and red carpet had been laid.

The entire room was filled with a nauseating smell of blood and decay, which combined to create an even more impactful stench.

A dead person was kneeling against the wall, curled up. Or rather, they couldn't be called a person anymore; it looked more like a skeleton that had grown some flesh.

Their legs were stuck to the floor by the thick, sticky blood.

The flesh on his body had fallen off, piece by piece, each with a perfect thickness, and piled up around him in a circle.

His internal organs were stuffed inside his ribcage, which was now just a skeleton. If he hadn't been kneeling on the ground, they probably would have fallen out.

Nailed to the wall in front of him was a newspaper clipping – the one reporting Mia's brutal murder. Words were written next to it in blood.

"The criminal Bill!"

"The Evil Spirit judges your sins!"

Below that was a graffiti drawing of an Evil Spirit. If it hadn't been drawn in blood, it would have been a decent piece of art.

George fought back his nausea, turned his gaze away, and asked, "Anything else?"

George didn't receive a reply from Little White. When he turned back, he heard Little White's retching.

George, hearing the sound, couldn't hold back any longer. He rushed outside and leaned against the fence, starting to vomit.

Even though George had been through a lot, he couldn't handle this kind of impact. The torture, the gruesome scene, and the smell that made him feel like he could throw up his own stomach acid... George felt like he might need a lifetime to recover.

He figured he'd need to take extra showers when he got home tonight, then change into a new set of clothes and spray on extra deodorant. Otherwise, he wouldn't even be able to bring himself to go inside; it was just too disgusting.

Still, he was an experienced old police officer. After emptying his stomach, George, though pale, still skillfully continued to arrange the work: autopsy, investigation, and so on. There was still much work to be done.

Calling over his assistant, George said to him seriously, "Listen, make sure everyone who has been in contact with this case keeps their mouths shut, understand? This case is extremely serious and can't be leaked for now, otherwise, the consequences will be severe."

The assistant nodded and immediately went to carry out the order.

George stood on the lawn outside the house, lit a cigarette, and the spreading tobacco smell finally temporarily diluted that awful odor.

George was very clear about the seriousness of this matter. Although Bill was a fugitive, no one had expected him to be found in this way.

If that group of fast-running reporters dug it up, George could imagine the ensuing questions and accusations.

That group of reporters loved to stir up trouble, but the New York Police Department would be thrust into the spotlight.

George rubbed his temples; he was already starting to get a headache.

"Evil Spirit."

George muttered the name as he pondered.

He'd been hearing that name frequently lately, whether from his kids' discussions at home or within the police department.

But previously, the Evil Spirit had only been involved in minor skirmishes. Although the Evil Spirit would wound those thugs, the Evil Spirit had never caused any deaths.

Who would have thought that today would bring such a huge surprise? Not only had the Evil Spirit killed someone, but the methods were also extremely cruel.

"Ugh," George rubbed his head, feeling a few more strands of hair had met their demise.

George threw the cigarette butt on the ground and ground it under his foot, cursing, "Damn criminals, damn Evil Spirit, I..."

Time returned to Friday.

Having finished gathering the information, Meng Ran stood up and stretched. He had no idea how much trouble he'd caused his future father-in-law; George was probably still tearing his hair out.

Meng Ran closed his eyes and carefully reviewed the information in his mind. He could only keep it in his head; leaving any trace would be very troublesome.

After confirming everything was correct, Meng Ran opened his eyes, his sharp gaze fixed on a man on the computer screen. He was the leader of the Crocodile Gang, Bob Weiss.

This Bob Weiss was in his forties now, and his rise to power began twenty years ago.

Back then, Bob had also shown a lot of grit, organizing a group of thugs into the Crocodile Gang. Initially, they were just scraping a living under the wings of a larger gang.

Suddenly one day, the leader of a large gang mysteriously disappeared. Without their leader's constraints, his subordinates, a bunch of headless dragons, fought tooth and nail to seize the top spot.

Bob took advantage of their infighting and secretly acquired a lot of the gang's resources.

In the end, they all suffered heavy losses, while Bob and his Crocodile Gang became stronger than ever.

The Crocodile Gang naturally wiped out these leaders and officially absorbed the large gang.

Later, the Crocodile Gang fought with other gangs until, ten years ago, they finally held all of New York's underworld in their grasp.

The entire city's drug trade, casinos, and other black market activities were under the control of the Crocodile Gang.

Bill was a lackey under Ul Rock, the second-in-command of the Crocodile Gang. Ul was a founding member who had joined Bob in establishing the gang.

Eight years ago, the police launched a series of operations against the Crocodile Gang. They almost caught Ul, but Bill took the fall for him, allowing Ul to escape. The man who spoke to Meng Ran that day should have been Ul.

Meng Ran was waiting for the news to break. Although they already knew Bill was dead, they probably wouldn't pay much attention since they hadn't seen the scene. Bill had found his own place, and the Crocodile Gang wouldn't know about it.

Once the news broke, the Crocodile Gang would definitely get their hands on the photos from the scene. Meng Ran believed that after seeing the photos, they definitely wouldn't underestimate him anymore.

Just the death of Bill wasn't enough, Meng Ran feared. He planned to take out Ul Rock on the day the news broke.

With the death of their second-in-command, coupled with the media's widespread reports, the Crocodile Gang would be forced to react, no matter how stubborn they were.

Meng Ran had already pinpointed several of their strongholds. He planned to take them all out in one fell swoop when they gathered together. If he was going to do it, he would do it thoroughly, eliminating the roots.
