Chapter 11 - Private Chat

Not long after Heddy left the capital, all 1,000 Magic Net Rings were activated.

The book immediately opened the private chat function.

Private chat and Magic Space are independent functions, but they're linked together.

The username entered when first activating the Magic Net Ring becomes the unique soul account, synchronized across all future applications.

The private chat function is much simpler than any chat tool Ren had seen in his previous life.

You can't send emojis, can't send pictures, can't send voice messages—besides text, there's nothing else fancy.

But this is enough!

In this fantastical land, although there's magic like Wind Speech that allows remote communication, the limit is only one or two kilometers away, which can't really be called communication—at best it's a walkie-talkie.

"Goddess of Magic above, God of Internet above, they actually released a new feature so quickly!"

"Private chat? You can chat privately?"

"You can add friends? Communicate with friends individually?! This feature is so awesome!"

For ordinary citizens, when night falls, it's time to rest.

Even oil lamps are very expensive.

But for spellcasters with magic, magic crystal lamps aren't anything rare.

Even late at night, their mansions are lit up like daylight.

The private chat function immediately attracted a lot of attention as soon as it appeared.

Horace, who got the first Magic Net Ring, has been excited these past few days.

Whenever he has free time, he surfs the net.

A total "internet addiction," although this term hasn't formed in this world yet.

After understanding the private chat function, he quickly browses through posts he had just commented on recently, focusing on someone called "Wandering Wild Mage," clicks on their name, and adds them as a friend.

Sure enough.

The other person is still online now.

With almost no pause, he receives an acceptance notification.

Opening his friend list, "Wandering Wild Mage" is already there.

"This is way too convenient!"

Horace marvels as he slides his finger across the screen and sends a message: "Private chat function test, can you receive this, Wild Mage?"

"Got it! Haha, this feature is absolutely amazing. Before when I was chatting with you guys about Tina in the space, I always felt like I was being watched. This feature perfectly solves that pain point. Goddess of Magic above, God of Internet above, they're simply the most awesome gods I've ever seen!"

The Wild Mage seems extremely excited.

He's in a completely hyped state.

"Praise the Goddess of Magic, praise the God of Internet, but right now I'm more interested in knowing the content you were hesitant to say in the space before. I know those things might be shocking to the world. You were worried in the space that others would know who you are, but here, you won't have that concern!"

Every magician explores the essence of the world, explores mysteries, studies runes... but not all research can be accepted by the world.

The Wild Mage seems to be exactly this type of person.

Many things he simply doesn't dare say in front of others, but on the internet, in Magic Space, nobody knows who anybody is, and invisibly, his courage grows a lot.

Gradually, getting used to this anonymous feeling, he starts thinking about whether he can use this method to find like-minded partners, but he didn't expect the first person would be so fast...

Although he doesn't know if they can really become true partners.

This night, he and Horace chat about many things.

This night, the magicians in the capital also chat about many things.

Some sharp guys are already discussing exactly how far the Magic Internet can spread.

Near dawn, the door of the Royal Mage Society president's house is suddenly knocked on.

"Oh, damn it, it's probably some drunk noble who got the wrong house in the middle of the night, right?"

The awakened society president's face is full of displeasure.

His house is in the nobles' district.

The nobles here always like to hold party after party all night long.

Whether it's the Month of Fire or the Frigid Moon, it's always like this.

Occasionally there are cases of knocking on the wrong door.

But as president of the Royal Mage Society, he can't turn them away.

That wouldn't be proper etiquette.

But this time, the person knocking is obviously way beyond his expectations.

"Oh?! My goodness. You, this respectable runic scholar, how could you be knocking on my door at this hour?"

The society president looks at this visitor and shows a very surprised expression.

This is an old woman wearing blue runic robes, standing there quietly without any aura showing, but giving people a sense of authority.

President of the Runic Society.

One of only two legendary magicians in the city.

The ceiling of human combat power.

Their existence is like the greatest deterrent to enemies.

"Have you heard of the Magic Internet, Wilton?"

"Magic Internet? What an obscure term. May I ask, is this a new type of magic or ancient lost magic?"

Wilton obviously doesn't know this name.

"Wilton, living in the nobles' district for so long has infected you with the nobles' laziness and backwardness. You should change where you live."

The Runic Society president's expression doesn't change much: "Several days ago, a low-level magician called Coffin-Carrying Heddy brought that old guy's coffin around the city distributing divine gifts called Magic Net Rings. You just need to pray to the Goddess and you can communicate with others through the ring. Today it even..."

"Oh? Such a thing actually happened?" After hearing this, Wilton's face is full of surprise: "In that case, wouldn't we not need to continue investing in communication runes and have ready-made ones to use?"

Praying to the Goddess of Magic is something every magician has done, although maybe only once in their lifetime... but who cares about doing it a few more times?

At least Wilton doesn't care.

What he cares about more is actual benefits.

Researching communication runes costs astronomical amounts every year, enough to build ten mage towers, but there's never been much progress.

Now someone is actually giving away such devices for free in the city... the first thing he thinks of is those almost endless gold shields.

"Wilton, I see you've really been infected by these kingdom nobles."

The old woman's face finally starts looking ugly: "How can you guarantee these rings will work forever? How can you guarantee these rings aren't bait someone put out?! I came to invite you to research the communication runes on them together."
