Chapter 27 - Dragon Runes

"President! President Wilton! I... I have something to report!"

Outside the president's laboratory on the top floor of the Runic Society, sudden urgent footsteps sounded, followed by shouting.

"You better have something important."

The legendary old woman from the Runic Society frowned slightly.

Hand of the King Berion Rogers had just sent word through the Magic Net that the northern border, the watch wall, might really have problems. Several territorial nobles had reported small numbers of wandering ice spirits in their domains—this news made her very uneasy...

Fortunately, border news was transmitted through the Magic Net, saving time from messengers. They still had some time to crack the magic bomb formula, mass-produce them, and ship them to the border!

Ice spirits were monsters that had already occupied the continent's north, similar to zombies from Ren's previous life movies and shows, but more terrifying!

Zombies needed to actively attack to infect other people or animals, but ice spirits were different. Just having enough ice spirits present would pollute the surrounding space... In polluted areas, all corpses would 'come alive,' becoming combat units attacking any living thing.

The watch wall was built jointly by all continental races to isolate these ice spirits.

Once ice spirits appeared south of the watch wall in large numbers, no living things would remain in the world.

At least the Kingdom of Dawn would definitely be finished!

"Just now... just now the Magic Internet updated a new function called Magic Encyclopedia..."

The assistant quickly began explaining, but before he could finish, Wilton couldn't help frowning: "Shared knowledge? Everyone can share and view it? That's something deities might do, but why? No magician would be willing to make this public. The more powerful the magician, the less likely they'd agree—otherwise black boxes wouldn't exist now!"

Magic's essence was using runes to build spell models, then activating them with magic power to produce various effects.

When teaching apprentices, magicians usually only taught basic runes and some spell models. Only very close apprentices or family descendants could obtain deeper knowledge about spell models—like why to use certain runes, what effects these runes produced, how to combine runes, etc.

Without this deeper knowledge, magicians could at most 'copy' exactly to achieve effects...

Simply put, when spell models couldn't be analyzed and builders didn't know the magic's principles but just constructed and injected magic power to use it—when runic structures, energy flows, everything was unknown—this was called a black box.

In this world, 99.9% of magicians only learned black box magic without mastering core knowledge, never able to create magic themselves.

As a legendary magician, Wilton naturally knew this. In fact, he was conservative in this regard.

Now suddenly hearing that the Magic Internet's new function wanted to display all this for everyone—how could he not react!

"You're just reporting this?"

The old woman glanced at Wilton without saying much, refocusing on the apprentice who'd just entered.

The Runic Society mainly researched basic runes and black box magic. In this area, he had completely different psychology from elder Wilton, but now wasn't the time to discuss this...

"No... no!" The apprentice quickly shook his head: "It's about... oh no, Drew's apprentice just came over saying he found magic bomb production methods and principles on the Magic Encyclopedia..."

"Magic bomb production methods and principles?!"

Almost everyone standing in the laboratory instantly turned their attention over.

The knowledge they desperately wanted was just sitting there?

The knowledge they'd been thinking about until their hair almost fell out could be viewed directly on the Magic Net?!

Those runes they'd never seen before—now they could directly check what they did?!

Even Wilton, this legendary magician, couldn't help but feel some waves in his heart... waves like towering tsunamis.

"Are you sure?!"

As Wilton took a deep breath for final confirmation, Runic Society mages had already reacted, quickly praying, activating Magic Net, clicking this new function, skillfully searching for magic bombs, enhanced with 'Speed Read Magic,' entering quantum reading mode.

Even before the apprentice could respond, they'd read all the information: "It's real! I've read everything—what each rune does, runic structures, energy flows, medium materials—all the information is there! That magic storage rune we've been researching is actually a dragon language rune from the dragon race! No wonder it's different from runes in our understanding!"

Silence!

You could hear a pin drop in the laboratory.

After a long time, the remaining magicians seemed to react, hurriedly opening their own Magic Nets and reading obsessively...

"Perhaps sharing knowledge isn't such a bad thing." Unlucky Drew looked at this information and couldn't help muttering.

His learning path hadn't been smooth. He'd achieved his current success largely because he'd obtained some knowledge from ruins in his youth, used this to join the Runic Society, and gotten on the right track... Because of this, he knew better than anyone what state bottom-tier magicians were in.

If they could learn certain knowledge through this encyclopedia, it would definitely let them go further, then... many of them would surely be willing to share and give back. When encountering topics like magic bombs again, perhaps just a few minutes of searching could solve problems many people couldn't explore for years.

Just like now!

Those dragon language runes—they'd had great difficulty trying to replicate them, but now, after reading the analysis, any of them could handle it. The difference was like a vast chasm.

With his sigh, many people around instantly turned their attention to him.

Even the worst present was a mid-level magician with much better hearing than ordinary people.

His words almost instantly reached everyone's ears.

Noticing the surrounding gazes, Unlucky Drew couldn't help shivering: "Well, I'm just talking, and even if we share, it would be my personal knowledge. I absolutely wouldn't do anything against Society rules."

"No, Drew, I think you're right." The old woman shook her head slightly: "Knowledge might indeed be good to share through this model. Of course, we can't share blindly—knowledge is priceless. So many people's efforts can't be given free to everyone."

The Runic Society president, one of the capital's two legendary magicians, actually stood up supporting his view. Though with some reservations, this still made Drew extremely excited!
