Chapter 37 - Winston Comes to Call

"Have you finished what I asked you to do?"

After the car had been driving smoothly for more than ten minutes, Anton suddenly broke the silence in the car and asked.

"As you requested, DC (Detective Comics) has been officially established, and the approval procedures will be obtained tomorrow." Betty nodded.

On the night Anton booked a ticket to San Francisco, Anton asked Betty if she would like to change jobs.

The latter was a little hesitant at first, but quickly thought it through and became clear-headed. Before Anton left, she took the initiative to find Anton and agreed to become Anton's personal assistant.

Now, as a genius director sought after by Hollywood, coupled with a background that is eye-catching enough, Anton has become one of the most famous "rich kids" in the United States, with a popularity second only to Tony Stark before his accident.

Not to mention that the two of them were also buddies.

Tony Stark has been missing for almost a week since the incident, and the news has been buzzing about it. However, the public's interest in Tony Stark is waning day by day.

After all, in the eyes of many, this guy is already dead.

He disappeared after an attack by a terrorist group in a war-torn place like Afghanistan.

Whether he's alive or dead is just wishful thinking for some.

Most people know that Tony Stark has probably kicked the bucket.

Considering Tony's buddies—Anton Jameson, who is now not only a genius director and the behind-the-scenes boss of the Daily Bugle, but also possibly the rumored superhero, Batman, who has recently debuted and is admired by many!

The more people regret Tony Stark's fate, the more attention they pay to Anton Jameson.

From a cynical perspective, Anton has risen to power by stepping on Tony.

However, what no one knows is that only Anton has unshakeable confidence that Tony is fine, from beginning to end.

If Tony Stark were to die, the world would lose at least half its color.

Back to the point.

On the way back to the Daily Bugle from the airport, Betty continued her report, saying, "The head of the screenwriting department is Browning Toby. He enjoyed working with you before and readily accepted our invitation. As for Jim, he said he needs some time to think about it."

"The movie is just one aspect of our plan."

Anton nodded with satisfaction, his capitalist demeanor on full display. He then instructed, "Regarding comics, animation, and merchandise, etc., those need to be arranged as soon as possible."

"Understood," Betty replied.

"When will Browning arrive in New York? I have a lot to discuss with him," Anton asked. "Right, those assistant directors I mentioned, did you manage to poach them?"

"Three people accepted our invitation, but the others declined," Betty said.

"Three people?"

Anton stroked his chin, not being too critical. "Never mind. You've done pretty well in such a short time."

As they spoke, the car pulled up to the curb in front of the Daily Bugle building.

Anton and the others got out.

Back at the Daily Bugle, Phil unpacked his luggage and went to the accounting office first. He picked up his pay slip, which Anton had approved, and received a huge bonus.

Then, Phil excitedly packed his luggage and went home.

Anton had also given him a vacation, telling him to return to work after Eddie reported for duty.

Sitting in a chair at the Daily Bugle, Anton made himself a cup of coffee, took a small sip, and let out a long sigh.

This life had finally calmed down.

Knock, knock, knock!

Just as he was about to leave work, Betty knocked on the door. Her expression was a little strange as she said to him, "Someone knows you're back, and he wants to see you."

Anton asked, "Who?"

Betty said, "Winston from the Continental Hotel."

"Let him in."

Anton nodded. Then, he saw Winston push the door open. His expression was gentle, and there was no sign of the impotent rage from that night.

"Anton, should I say, 'Nice to meet you'?"

Winston looked at the young man in front of him with a smile, his vigilance at its highest.

This kid isn't simple.

That night, when Anton, as Batman, threatened him, it was like a demon from hell, an experience he'd never forget.

"What is it?"

In front of Winston, Anton didn't bother to pretend. They knew each other too well. He smiled with amusement, "I thought you'd never want to see me again."

"There's an Adjudicator who wants to see you."

Winston stated frankly, "You need to account for what happened at the Continental Hotel, don't you?"

"An Adjudicator?"

Anton had a look that was half a smile. "Let her come in."

Winston said, "Well, actually, she wants you to go see her, at the Continental Hotel."

"I don't belong to the High Table, nor have I offended the High Table."

Anton's expression instantly darkened. He stared coldly at Winston, radiating a dangerous aura, and slowly said, "Quite the opposite, the High Table offended me! Go back and tell The Adjudicator, if she wants to see me, have her come to the Daily Bugle. Also, if the High Table wants to deal with me, they are welcome to try anytime."

"I will relay your words to her, word for word."

Winston didn't seem angry either; it looked like he didn't have a good impression of The Adjudicator either.

After speaking slowly, he turned and left.

Then, until the end of the workday, Anton didn't see The Adjudicator from the High Table.

He couldn't be bothered with it all.

Anyway, he had never taken the High Table organization to heart.

Simply put, the High Table is a global assassin empire that operates under strict rules. All assassins affiliated with the High Table must abide by these rules.

However, even with such power, the High Table does not completely dominate the assassin world.

Various assassin organizations still exist.

They're like different factions, constantly competing.

According to Anton Jameson's understanding, the High Table has twelve seats, held by the Camorra, the Mafia, the Yakuza, the Chinese, and the Russians, who serve as elder members.

These controllers are spread across the globe, making them difficult to deal with.

The Continental Hotel is just a New York outpost under the High Table's control, far from their main base.

This is why after dealing with the Continental Hotel, Anton didn't focus on eradicating the High Table, or even trying to eliminate it entirely.

If the High Table had any sense, they wouldn't provoke him, a formidable enemy, again.

After all, he wasn't the one who started it.

Meanwhile.

Inside the "post-disaster reconstruction" Continental Hotel.

A short-haired woman, radiating an imposing aura, looked at Winston, who was smiling mischievously, and said without expression: "Is that what he said?"

"Indeed."

Winston nodded: "He wants you to see him, not the other way around. That's significant. In his view, we were the ones who made the first mistake."

"We?"

The Adjudicator looked deeply at Winston.

As the owner of the Continental Hotel, it was natural for Winston to include himself and the High Table when he said "we".

But in this context, it meant Winston wasn't willing to be the one to take the lead.

In other words, Winston's wariness of Anton had reached a very deep level.

Was that Batman, who had suddenly appeared, really that terrifying?

"When are you planning to see him?"

Winston asked suddenly, seeing the Adjudicator lost in thought.

"I will see him."

The Adjudicator glanced at Winston and replied calmly, "But not right now."
