While his wife got comfortable on the couch, Cal served glasses of water and then re-took his seat. Blue had asked for the water as a way to get Maria out of the room for a few minutes, but she had to admit the cold drink with a hint of lemon hit the spot. She nearly drank the whole glass.
"Maria," she said as she replaced the glass on the tray. "Where'd you two lovebirds meet?"
"In Mexico," Cal said quickly before his wife could answer.
Maria put her hand on Cal's thigh, but he shook his head at her unasked question. She sighed and looked toward the fireplace, sipping on her water.
"Do you need to talk to Bobby Joe?" asked Cal as though to head off any more of Blue's
nosey questions. He stood up and gestured toward the front door. "He's out right now, but I can have him call you when he gets in."
