Chapter 39 - Rogues Again

Kael's POV

"I know I couldn't mistake that scent," the rogue leader said, his lips curling into a dark grin.

"Nice to meet you too—again," I shot back, my tone flat. My voice sounded colder than I meant, but I wasn't about to let him see any hesitation.

Darius glanced between us, his brow furrowed. "You two know each other?"

"Yes," I said without looking away from the rogue. "We share a history." My hands itched to grab the gun already, memories of the last time I'd seen him flashing like lightning.

"You must have a death wish coming here," the rogue leader growled.

I smirked, my voice low and deliberate. "If you think I came here unprepared, you're dumber than I thought." My heart was beating steady, but every muscle in my body was coiled, ready to strike.

The rogue leader's grin widened, sharp and cruel. "No one's going to save you now, Pretty Boy."
