Chapter 17 - Disgraceful

"Everton?"

Said Jack as he looked pale at the body of his best friend, all covered in blood on the ground.

"Impossible! EVERTON ANSWER ME!!"

Grabbing his friend's cold body, Jack screamed and cried for an answer he knew would never reach his ears.

"It's all my fault! I couldn't reach in time!"

"IT'S HIM!!!"

Said a man from the whole crowd of people.

"IT'S THE ANGEL OF DEATH, HE IS THE ONE BEHIND ALL THIS! PEOPLE DIE WHEN HE IS CLOSE!"

"Yes it's him!"

"Probably he was close when this happened."

Disgraceful, a very disgraceful crowd, was what Jack thought at that moment. Someone had just died, and they immediately blamed those who seemed most suspicious. Anger from always suffering injustices, sadness over his friend's death. Jack's heart was in pieces.

"SHUT UP ALREADY AND MOVE ASIDE SO I CAN GET THROUGH!"

He shouted

And the frightened people began to make way, moving out of the crowd.

"Thanks"

Said Jack with a menacing look.

Then he closed the eyes of Everton's lifeless body, picked him up, and began carrying him through the city of Cambridge during the storm.

People watched a detective carrying a body; some were scared because of Jack's reputation, others wept tears for Everton's death (a well-known detective who was friendly with everyone he spoke to) and others threw trash at Jack.

The only thing Jack could think about in the middle of all that chaos was getting his friend's body to a place where he could be buried and given the rest he deserved.

That rainy night would be etched in Jack's life forever.
