Dane's POV
The morning air is cold, but it feels refreshing against my skin. I stand on the balcony, sipping my coffee as the soft sunlight slowly brightens the sky. Inside, Jimmy moves around, getting ready for work. He grabs his laptop from the table and looks at me.
"Dane, aren't you going to the café today?" he asks.
"Today's my day off," I reply, keeping my eyes on the sky.
He nods. "Alright then, I'm going. Don't skip lunch."
I chuckle lightly. "See you, Jimmy."
The door closes with a quiet click, leaving behind a stillness that feels heavier than usual. I breathe in deeply and look up at the glowing sky. Today… I'm going to find out the truth.
I change out of my nightclothes and stand before the mirror for a moment, staring at my reflection as determination settles in my chest. Then, the doorbell rings.
When I open the door, Secretary Lucas stands there with his usual polite, unreadable expression.
"Good morning, Mr. Damien," he says.
"Morning."
