Chapter 37 - The Last Toast

I walk out of the café, the air biting cold against my face. Daniel is already waiting outside, leaning casually against the car. The moment his eyes find me, his expression softens—but I don't say a word. I simply walk past him, open the door, and slide into the passenger seat.

He gets in after me, starting the car in silence. The sound of the engine fills the emptiness between us. I can feel his gaze flicker toward me again and again, like he wants to speak, to ask something—but I lean back against the seat and close my eyes.

I just want to be alone.

At some point, I must've dozed off, because when my eyes open, the sun is already melting into the horizon. The car has stopped. Through the window, the last golden light of sunset stretches across the sea. I blink, confused. Daniel isn't in the car.
