Chapter 7 - α Cancri Aa

The wind no longer blows, the cold is not carried away, the sun does not warm hearts, everything collides only in the presence of the mother of all.

— First of all! Could you answer my questions? I can't stand running and fighting for something I have no reason to do anymore. If I at least know what it's about, I can move on without caring what happens to me.

— Okay, my beloved son. Shall we go somewhere else or right here?

The ground began to tremble, rumbling like thunder that rent the sky with its voice, and cut it with its force. Soon they were in another place. Somewhere even impossible to describe.

Many millennia ago, the gods fought a battle against the giants. The gods thought they wouldn't lose, but Kronos had already begun the circle. Along with his brothers, Titans killed Ouranos, and the gods killed Kronos. Now, the mixing of Ouranos' blood with Kronos's gave rise to the Giants, who, because they had so much blood from the ancient kings, could contain the circle and end it. And they did. Thus, the Giants reigned over the world, making a pact with humans, beings who were like them, hated by the gods. Some humans had children with giants, giving rise to a new species, actually two, one called Arachne and the other Moira. The Arachne weave the past, the gods, and the Titans. Meanwhile, the Moira could clothe themselves in the past, gaining its powers. They became a danger in the eyes of Typhon, king of the Giants, who began a hunt for them. The handful that survived encountered Apollo, the last god, like the humans, pursued by the Giants. Thus the Arachnes and the Moirae separated, those who sided with Apollo in his revenge, and those who did not. Thus began a war, which diminished them even further. Then Typhon entered the battle and brought about the extermination of the traitorous humans. Thus the cycle began again.

Creatures never before seen attacked human villages around the world. They were different, and no one knew where they came from. Until a certain point, the dead began to rise from their graves, pursuing certain people, these being Arachne and Moirae. By eating their flesh, the undead gradually became creatures called Echidnas, beings with varying forms and powers that not even the giants could defeat. So Apollo sealed all the existing giants in eggs, thinking he would now be free to dominate the world. But as in everything there is a balance, creatures called Aix began to emerge, beings with the same power as the Echidna. Instead of controlling the dead, the Aix made contracts with the living, taking their bodies and making promises that were to be kept. If the promises were kept, the Aix evolved alongside the humans, giving rise to creatures with infinite power, a new type of being, unnamed. Thus began the war between the Echidna and the Aix, where the help of the Arachne was essential to the Aix's victory. With the sealing of the Giants, the destruction of the Echidna, another circle began.

The eggs that sealed the Giants eventually disappeared, becoming the possession of Apollo, who now initiated a greater plan. Meanwhile, humans began to evolve on their own, forgetting the existence of the giants and everything that had happened over the millennia, becoming the current society. The Aix disappeared, spreading throughout the world, but they could still be seen as crucial to humans. Throughout humanity, extremely strong and unique individuals appeared, perhaps carrying Aix.

Then, sometime in the 19th century, a company specializing in medicine and burials emerged. Apollo was the head of the company or one of his sons. Somehow, they managed to transform the Giants and Echidnas into artificial Arachnes and Moirae, their powers coming from the sealed giants themselves, fed by the Echidnas that surround their seals, just like a mother hoping to give birth to her son from the fusion of herself with the giants, the Faines. Who take the bodies of the dead.

Now we quickly come to the present. Where Apollo's plans are hidden, in parts, others cannot escape my eyes. They managed to gather the Arachnes and Moirae, created more Faines, and obtained a huge amount of Aix. But their plans were delayed, I would say advanced, due to a union reminiscent of the past: a human and a giant join forces to defeat whatever Apollo wants to do.

— Now I think you understand, Mamoru. Could you tell me the location of the giant I'm looking for?

"It seems Nike smiled upon my son. He now finds himself in the body of a very special child, the key to victory against Apollo and the temporary end of a cycle. I have already left the information in the mind of my dear son, whom I now possess. If I wished you luck, it would be unfair, but I do it anyway. End this endless cycle."

Space twists like the body of a serpent, completing the design Gaia used to demonstrate how everyone's fate is linked.

"I think you've got all your questions answered by the person who witnessed it all. Are you happy, Mamoru?" Shizuko helped the giant get up from the mud.

— Now we need to run with this guy, before his smell becomes unbearable!
