Chapter 20 - Sparring

Because of Chi-Chi, Ling An couldn't stay at Paozu Mountain for long. He called to Gohan and they headed to Bulma's place to train. They could train at Paozu Mountain, of course, but it didn't have a gravity training room.

Even though the Androids had been destroyed, Gohan still wanted to get stronger, so he readily agreed to go to Bulma's place.

They said goodbye to Trunks, and the two of them bid farewell to Chi-Chi and headed towards West City.

On the way, they still saw many city ruins and humans cautiously surviving. Ordinary people didn't know the terrifying Androids had been destroyed. They were still living in fear. Ling An and Gohan couldn't do anything about this. They couldn't just run around telling people the Androids were gone. Aside from whether or not people would believe them, it would be a hassle to do that.

Perhaps after a few months without any news of the Androids, humans would slowly realize they had been destroyed or had left.

So they didn't interfere.

The two of them flew in the air. Ling An turned to look at Gohan and suddenly said, "Gohan, have you ever considered staying in your Super Saiyan form all the time?"

"Staying in Super Saiyan form all the time?" Gohan was stunned, not understanding why Ling An would suggest that.

Seeing Son Gohan's puzzled expression, Ling An said, "Although I don't quite understand what a Super Saiyan is, since I'm not a Saiyan, I've observed you and Trunks and noticed that maintaining the Super Saiyan state seems to consume a lot of physical strength and energy, right?"

"That's right." Son Gohan's expression turned serious upon hearing this. He wasn't someone who was all brawn and no brains; on the contrary, he was quite intelligent. Otherwise, he wouldn't have become a scholar in the main timeline. In this situation, he vaguely felt that Ling An was talking about something very important.

Ling An continued, "Everyone's body can withstand different limits, and even an individual's limits change over time. For example, an ordinary person might only be able to do ten push-ups at first. But after years of training, they might be able to do fifty or even a hundred. From this, we can see that a person's limits aren't absolute; they can constantly be broken through."

"Maintaining the Super Saiyan state is a burden for you. So why not break through this burden and let your bodies gradually adapt to this state? Once your body can easily maintain the Super Saiyan state, wouldn't you be able to unleash even greater power in combat?"

In fact, the method Ling An described was something Goku had taught Son Gohan in the original story. But in the future world, Goku had passed away long ago, so he didn't have the chance to teach him. Since Goku had taught it, it must be correct.

Of course, what she said was also correct. Different states of a person have a completely different impact on the use of their strength. Take Son Gohan, for example. If he had both arms, with his current power, he could easily defeat even two Androids working together. But because he was missing an arm, he couldn't exert his full power.

Goku from the main timeline had also experienced a similar situation. When fighting the Androids, it was supposed to be a sure thing, but he was defeated because of a heart attack.

It's not realistic to say that a person can exert as much power as their battle power indicates. But by using various methods to reduce energy consumption and allowing oneself to unleash as much power as possible, it can be done. Helping Son Gohan maintain the Super Saiyan state is naturally one such method.

The main reason Ling An wanted to help Gohan increase his strength was to provide a layer of insurance when traveling to the past. After all, although each timeline shared the same origin, different branches displayed different forms. In this world, Cell appeared much earlier than in others.

No one could guarantee that the past timeline would unfold exactly like the original story. In such a situation, it was best if Gohan could improve his power as much as possible.

Ling An's words plunged Gohan into thought. His flying figure paused mid-air. Ling An also stopped, standing beside him and watching.

After a while, Ling An felt a powerful surge of energy erupt from Gohan's body. The next moment, a golden aura enveloped him, transforming him into a Super Saiyan. However, Gohan's Super Saiyan form at this moment was incredibly dynamic; Ling An could even hear the swirling vortex of energy.

"Ling An, I've become a Super Saiyan. What should I do next? Is this all there is?" Gohan understood Ling An's words, but he only grasped them partially. He asked, "What do I do now?"

"Gohan, can you gather the energy spilling out back into your body?" Ling An stroked her chin, sizing Gohan up and down. After a moment of thought, she spoke.

"I'll try!"

Gohan exhaled gently, closing his eyes and beginning to feel the energy surrounding his body. The next moment, the fist he had clenched gradually relaxed, and the aura around him slowly dissipated...

"How about this?"

After a moment, Gohan, who was just a blonde-haired, blue-eyed person, but otherwise completely normal, looked at Ling An with a questioning expression.

"Excellent, that's the state! Gohan, maintain this state as much as possible. Don't revert from your Super Saiyan form, whether you're eating or sleeping. When you no longer feel pressure from this state, you'll have succeeded!" Ling An clapped her hands, nodding with immense joy.

It had to be said that Gohan was a true genius, whether in training or learning. Even without Goku's guidance, even with just a few words from her, Gohan could understand and put them into practice. Looking at Gohan's current situation, Ling An nodded in satisfaction.

"I understand. I'll maintain this state for training from now on. Perhaps I can truly unleash even greater power, just as you said, Ling An!"

Gohan's eyes were exceptionally determined, and he had a relatively clear understanding of what he wanted to do next. Thinking that this method was devised by Ling An, he looked at her with some amazement: "Ling An, you truly are an amazing Martial Artist!"

"Ahem, not bad." Ling An scratched her cheek, feeling a little embarrassed. How should she put it? This method of hers actually came from Goku, and because it had been a while since she'd read the original story, she had forgotten some details. In this situation, she couldn't explain everything fully, so she could only remind Gohan. She couldn't help him with what to do next; he could only rely on his own understanding.

"But Gohan, since you say I'm an amazing Martial Artist, do you want to spar with me?" Ling An suddenly had an idea, and spoke to Gohan.

"Really? Fight me in Super Saiyan form?" Gohan's eyes widened, looking at Ling'an in surprise.

"Of course." Ling'an nodded affirmatively.

"But… but I'm in Super Saiyan form right now, and I need to maintain this state. I'm worried I might accidentally…" Gohan hesitated slightly. Although he was tempted by the idea of fighting Ling'an, he was also afraid of accidentally hurting him. After all, Ling'an was considered extremely strong among Earthlings, even much stronger than most, but he hadn't forgotten that Ling'an couldn't handle the Androids. This showed that Ling'an's strength still had a certain gap compared to his.

However, facing his concerns, Ling'an waved his hand and said with a smile, "Gohan, don't worry. I've made some breakthroughs recently. Even if you go all out, I have a way to deal with it."

"Re… really? That's unbelievable, Ling'an! You're the most incredible person I've ever met! Whether you're from the universe or Earth, you're the most unbelievable."

Gohan took a deep breath. Although he found it hard to believe, he also felt that Ling'an wouldn't lie to him. If he wasn't lying, then Ling'an's improvement in strength was terrifying. In just over ten days, he could go from not being able to defeat the Androids to being able to contend with him…

It was simply unbelievable.

"Since you say so, Ling'an, then let's have a fight. I also want to see your martial arts!" Gohan suddenly said seriously.

"Let's begin then!"

Ling An smiled slightly, and white aura erupted from him. In the next moment, he was already in front of Gohan. Sensing Ling An's speed, Gohan's expression changed, and the last bit of disbelief vanished completely.

Ling An really hadn't deceived him; he really had become stronger, even stronger than him!

Gohan slightly sidestepped to avoid Ling An's attack. His heart was now quite excited. After all, being able to meet someone even stronger who wasn't an enemy was simply fantastic. He roared and attacked Ling An with world-destroying power!

Ling An was not to be outdone, fighting him with power no weaker than Gohan's. They exchanged blows, with every punch and kick landing solidly. The intensity of the battle even caused Gohan's previously contained power to erupt. However, they were both so engrossed in the fierce fight that they didn't pay any attention to this.

They fought more and more fiercely, more and more ferociously. Later, they even unleashed waves of Kamehameha at each other. As a descendant of the Saiyan race, Gohan was incredibly excited and thrilled. At the same time, he also felt a deep sense of pressure. He knew that not long ago, Ling An couldn't even fight against the Androids, but now he possessed the power to fight him at full strength. And judging from Ling An's effortless state, it was clear that this wasn't even his full power!

Therefore, he also had to become stronger so that he wouldn't be left behind by Ling An!
