Chapter 4 - Ch 4: Where am I? - Part 3

"Here, you can have this room for now. Do you have any identity papers on you? Oh, of course you won't have any—! Don't worry, I will help you get some new papers."

I was led around the back of the PC store by the old lady who introduced herself as Emma.

She and her partner Ben had owned the store for about half a century now, and she gave me the guest room.

The room was well-kept and well-maintained. It was clear that it had an occupant until recently.

Somehow, taking such a room did not feel right to me. It made me feel like I was invading someone else's space.

"Are you sure it is alright for me to stay here? This room is—"

I tried to convey my words, but I did not know how to say what I wanted to say.

Thankfully, the old lady seemed to understand what I wanted to say and just waved her hand around.

"Don't worry about it. The person who lived in this room until yesterday left to be with their family. You can have this room for however long it takes for you to move on."

The old lady was really kind. I had never received such unconditional kindness in my life.

My speechless expression must have made me look stupid, because the old lady just sighed and told me not to worry too much.

As she left, I threw myself on the bed, and for the first time since I arrived in the real world, I relaxed. My eyes felt heavy, and I collapsed under the stress of the day.

The next time I woke up, someone was opening the door to my room.

It was Ben, and he looked sorry to have woken me up. I waved at him to tell him that it was alright.

"Sorry for coming in here like this. Emma would like to see you. She wants me to tell you that you need to fill out a form for her."

Ben looked at me, and I felt like I needed to get up and follow him out. Once out, Emma handed me a piece of paper which I could only assume was the form I needed to fill.

"Here, these will get you a new identity. Don't worry, I won't ask you for money."

Emma assured me, and I decided to fill out the form.

Most of what I filled out was the truth. I gave my real name—Kyle—and even my real birthday, just forwarded by 10 years. I filled out as much as I could, and then I came to the column that made me pause.

'Awakened or non-Awakened? This is a column now? Back in my day, we all had to get lucky to find out if we were hunters or not.'

That single line in the identity form made me realize how different the world was now compared to 10 years ago.

'For now, I should put myself as a non-Awakened and settle down.'

That was what I chose for myself.

"You are a non-Awakened? Are you sure? You healed faster than I thought, so I took you as an Awakened. The state hospital must have recruited a strong hunter to heal you this fast."

Emma looked impressed and worried as she looked at the resume, but her worry quickly faded away.

I had known that omega hunters were not rare these days, and most of the omega celebrities were hunters as well.

Still, I did not want to associate with the hunter life at the moment, so I chose to stay away from it for now.

"Alright, I will submit these forms and come back with your new identity. Ben will show you around the shop and tell you what to do. Get yourself familiarized with this place in the meantime."

Emma skipped out with a happy bounce in her step. Her old age seemed to not deter her in the least.

Ben was much calmer and told me to follow him as he showed me the kitchen.

"This is where you will work most of the time. I will introduce you to the other staff tomorrow. For now, you can look around."

I nodded and did just that. I looked around the kitchen and then the PC café. It was still early outside and a lot of traffic had not started to come in, but I knew that it was only a matter of time.

Once work started, I got too busy to think of much else.

For now, I had gotten a fresh start, and I intended to make use of it as much as I could.

______

While Kyle had gotten a new start to life, that did not mean that everyone had forgotten about what he did.

The alpha and the nurse he had left behind looked too stunned to do anything but look out the window.

Finally, the alpha was the first one to move, and he pushed his hand through his hair as he looked outside the window.

"Oh wow—! I did not think I was this repulsive to have an omega run away from me. And not only run away, but to jump out of the window at that. What a unique way to start my week."

The alpha sounded stunned and amused at the same time. His voice pulled the nurse out of the daze she was in, and she blinked before she turned to look at the alpha.

Once her daze had faded, she finally recognized the alpha in front of her.

"W-Wait—! You are… no way—! Aren't you Lynn! Oh my god—! I'm such a fan… what are you—!"

The nurse seemed to not know if she wanted to fangirl or to speak. She would only twitch as she tried to hide her excitement.

Lynn just smiled at the nurse, and his smile melted the nurse's nervousness.

"Don't worry too much about it. As much as I appreciate you liking me, I would have to ask you to keep quiet about my visit here, since it was supposed to be a secret. It would cause me a lot of problems if people knew I was here. So you will keep quiet for me, right?"

Lynn's smile was majestic and intimidating at the same time. It made the omega in front of him swoon.

The female nurse had a small blush on her face as she looked at Lynn.

"Of course, I will keep your secret. B-But can I ask for an autograph?"

The female nurse asked with a nervous smile, and Lynn smiled back.

"Of course. But in return, can you do me a small favor? That omega patient—do you know who he was? Or how I can find him?"

Lynn asked, and the nurse looked away suddenly.

"A-Ah, about that, I am afraid we do not know. An old lady brought him here when she found him collapsed at the roadside. Aside from that, we know nothing. We were waiting for him to wake up so that we could ask for his family—"

The nurse paused while speaking, and her face went pale.

"—that man never paid his hospital bill. Oh my! What do we do—!"

Luckily for the nurse, Lynn stepped forward and placed a hand on her shoulder.

"Don't worry, miss. I will pay for that man's hospital bill. In return, please share any information you have on him with me."

The grip on the nurse's shoulder tightened a little as Lynn told her this. But the nurse was too love-struck to notice that.

"O-Of course I will inform you all about it."

Lynn sighed as he watched the nurse. This was the reaction he was used to getting from people.

So that omega had surprised him.

But he would find that omega soon enough anyway. There was nowhere to run from Lynn.
