Blaze had promised to treat Marylin to dinner, so he canceled his evening plans and drove straight to the restaurant.
"This place is really good, Blaze—you've got taste!" Marylin immediately launched into the topic of Fiona, never letting it drop. "By the way, your husband is really failing at his job. Cecilia's being bullied at home, and you just sit there?"
Cecilia stuffed a bite of steak into her mouth. "Eating doesn't shut you up, does it?"
Both women spoke their minds without filters. The difference was Cecilia often paused to think; Marylin just said whatever came to her head. That was one reason Blaze wasn't particularly fond of her.
"Come on, I'm just helping you vent, okay? You've been wronged at work and kept it all in—good on you!" Marylin said.
"That's because…" Cecilia hesitated mid-sentence, glancing at Blaze, and swallowed her words.
"By the way, three years have passed—are you two married yet?"
