"DXD: Transfer Student"Chapter 188: Trouble Never Ends
Long Yi wasn't about to go all out—not until he figured out whose side this guy was on.
With a single thought, Promotion triggered instantly.
He jumped straight to Queen class—the most powerful rank among devil pieces. His strength surged, every stat spiking in tandem.
That's the wildest perk of Absolute Dominion: total control over the power inside him.
Normally, pawn pieces can only promote if the battlefield conditions are right. For Long Yi, those rules had vanished—he could promote anytime, anywhere.
Word that Long Yi could self-promote had already sent shockwaves through the younger generation of devils.
In the Rating Games, pawns are crucial. They start weak, but if they promote at the right moment, they become Queen-level powerhouses.
One Queen piece per team—but eight pawns.
If a pawn promotes, it's like getting an extra Queen on the board. Overwhelming advantage.
That's why humans who need multiple pawn pieces to reincarnate are considered genius peerage members—one promotion, and you've got several Queens' worth of firepower.
Long Yi? He'd used all eight pawn pieces himself. Everyone knew it.
He even played double roles in Rating Games, splitting off a clone to share his power.
No wonder the other devil prodigies were terrified.
But Brien, standing across from him, had no clue what he was up against.
When Brien felt Long Yi's power spike, his eyes lit up.
"Oh? You suddenly got a lot stronger. Is this the legendary Promotion devils use? But I thought you needed a special field for that?"
He actually looked pleased, like Long Yi was finally worth his attention.
He had no idea how strong Long Yi really was.
Thanks to Absolute Dominion, there wasn't a trace of wasted energy leaking out. Brien couldn't gauge the true scale of Long Yi's power—just that the threat level had shot up.
Long Yi didn't bother answering. He stepped forward—and vanished.
Whoosh—
He reappeared right in front of Brien, fist cocked. No fancy moves, just a clean, direct punch.
Brien didn't let his guard down, throwing up divine power to defend.
It didn't matter. Long Yi's punch sent him flying.
A white ring burst behind Brien—sonic boom.
Air shuddered as Brien was blasted over a thousand meters away.
"So strong!?"
Brien was stunned. He was tough—he survived the punch, but both arms were shattered.
Even a fool could see this was bad.
Long Yi's combat power was off the charts.
Brien was peak high-class devil level, strong enough to fight ultimate-class devils. He'd thought taking out Long Yi—a rookie peerage member—would be easy.
He'd run into a monster instead.
Long Yi wasn't surprised.
Even the White Dragon Emperor had misjudged him before—and paid for it.
Compared to that, Brien was just a nameless background character.
Long Yi flashed forward again, closing the gap in a blink. He stomped down on Brien's chest, pinning him from mid-air to the ground.
No energy surges, no wasted motion—just a step that landed like a mountain.
Brien couldn't resist. He was slammed into the earth, buried in a crater twenty meters deep.
He retched, panicked, but mostly—he was terrified.
Now he understood.
Long Yi's power was on a whole different level.
They weren't even playing the same game.
The fight was over in seconds—Long Yi's total domination, no twists, no struggle.
Long Yi stood on Brien's chest, nudging his chin with his foot.
"Here's how this works. I ask, you answer. Got it?"
Brien, who'd been so arrogant moments ago, could only nod in terror.
"What does Loki want?"
"L-Lord Loki's goal isn't clear to us, but he promised we'd be rewarded for our service…"
"So you're following Loki's orders without knowing a thing?"
"This was Lord Loki himself, speaking to us directly. Of course we listened…"
Long Yi watched him closely.
With a little intimidation and a lot of willpower, he could tell—Brien wasn't lying.
…Moron.
Long Yi frowned. He'd expected an insider, but Brien was just a gullible idiot.
A few words from Loki, and he'd blindly followed orders?
Seriously—didn't these guys know Loki was called the God of Trickery?
Long Yi almost laughed.
And what was Loki really after, anyway?
"Fill in the crater. Then get lost."
Long Yi floated upward, cold as ice.
Brien had nearly given up hope, but when Long Yi let him go, he was overjoyed. He apologized, used divine power to fill the crater, and fled.
Once Brien was gone, Long Yi pulled out his phone and dialed Rias.
She picked up quickly.
"Long Yi?"
"Rias, I just ran into a Nordic god looking for trouble."
"What? You too? Are you alright?" Rias sounded worried.
So it wasn't just him.
Long Yi chuckled. "Me? That guy was a pushover."
"…Right, of course. You didn't kill him, did you?" Rias suddenly remembered to ask.
"No. He was just a pawn—didn't know anything. With things so uncertain, I'm not about to start a war."
"Hehe, that's why I trust you most."
Rias finally relaxed.
"I'll pass this on to my brother—he's already planning to reach out to the Nordic gods. Maybe he can figure out what they're up to."
Long Yi sighed inwardly.
So much for peace and quiet. Trouble was always just around the corner.
