Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1 - THE WATER BED

The voice continued echoing in her head.

"They won't make it, stop them. They'll get killed, stop them".

"Mom, don't go". The young girl ran up to her mother, who was about to leave the house with her husband and a few of his relatives.

"Oh, baby. Don't worry, I'll be back before you know it". Her mom returned to her, kneeling to the ground running her fingers through her hair and down to her cheeks with a loving smile on her face.

"No, it says you won't return. You'll be killed". The young girl spoke, tears running down her face freely.

The smile on her mother's face suddenly disappeared as she stood to her feet in shock staggering back. Her husband hurried to hold his wife.

"Who said that, dear?". Her dad asked her lovingly.

"It's the voice again, Dad. It's in my head". Tears continued streaming down her face. This time it was the father who was on his knees in front of her. His expression wasn't really encouraging, it was like he wanted to believe her, but he couldn't, cause it didn't sound right.

"I told you your daughter was crazy. You need to take her to an asylum, after all, you have the money to pay for her treatment". His elder screamed at him looking at the child with anger and disgust.

Her father's head fell before speaking in a low voice. "Ann, you can't say something like that to a child. My daughter isn't crazy".

"Then why does she keep hearing things that we all can't hear?". His old uncle lashes out.

"Maybe it's a gift". Her mother spoke with love in her voice and eyes.

"A gift to kill people with her tongue? Why doesn't she ever hear good things? It's always death, why?". His brother yelled too.

"Baby, don't worry, your mother and I are going to be alright, we'll be very careful, we'll come back to you. Ok, baby, wait for us". Her father ignored all the yelling from his family and spoke calmly to his daughter. He placed a kiss on her forehead and looked to the housekeeper to take care of her as he took his wife's hand and they set to leave.

"They can't be careful, what will come will come. They won't make it". The voice continued to ring in her head driving her insane.

"Dad, please, don't go. Mom, please". She struggled to run to them to stop them, but the housekeeper held her steady.

Her parents looked at each other, then turned to their daughter as they walked off, a mix of pain, pity, and love evident in their eyes.

Unfortunately, that was the last expression she saw on her parents' faces; it was the last time she saw her parents at all. She knelt on the floor of the mansion crying as she watched them leave.

"Sir, you need to see this". A guard dressed in a complete black outfit spoke into his earphone.

In less than 3 minutes, a man in his late 40s walked out to the water bed, followed by two bodyguards. There, the pale body of a little girl around 8 years of age lay unconscious.

"Check her". He ordered.

"She's still breathing". One of the guards who had hurried to check the child's body spoke.

"Take her inside for treatment. Check the waters she wouldn't have come here alone". He ordered and everyone hurried to work. The guard took the little girl in his arms and took her into the house to a room where a young lady was preparing treatment for another young girl around her age. He laid her down, and the lady quickly started treatment on her.

Boats spread through the water in search of anyone who could have been with the girl, but the only thing they found were the bodies of a man and a woman, popularly recognized as Mr and Mrs Ashbourne. They were already long gone.

"Mr Veyron". A tall man, also in his late 40s, walked into the dining room where Mr Veyron sat playing and feeding his daughter breakfast. He suddenly turned to meet the person who had taken his name.

"Hale". He jumped off his seat and ran into his long-time friend's arms.

Both of them gave each other manly pats before letting go of themselves.

"What's all the formality for?". Veyron looked up at his friend who laughed over it.

The little girl got out of her seat and was about to walk off, cause she had always been taught to excuse her elders whenever they were speaking, but Mr Hales stopped her.

"Is she your daughter Veyron?". He asked, walking over to the little girl.

"Oh yes, she is. Zyra, this is Mr Hale, my long-time friend, you could also call him my brother. Hale, this is my daughter Zyra". Mr Veyron smiled as he introduced them. Hales also smiled as he stared at the kid.

"Nice to meet you, sir". Was the only word Zyra spoke with her head down.

"Look at me, child". Mr Hale requested, and she did.

She stared so deeply into his eyes that Mr. Hale couldn't help but smile. He was impressed.

"She's perfect, fearless, dark, unreadable with a beautiful face and skin. I have little time left, Veyron. I want to see this happen. My kid is in town". He spoke, looking back at his friend whose bright expression had now dropped.

Zyra also looked over at Mr Veyron; she didn't understand what his friend was saying.

"Go on, Zyra, I'll ask for you later". He spoke dismissing her.

"Don't tell me you're changing your mind". Mr Hale spoke furiously.

"No, no, calm down. My daughter will get married to your son, it's just I hadn't discussed it with her".

"You better do, cause I want this one and I want this to happen quickly while I can still witness it". He spoke storming off.

"Of course it will". Mr Veyron yelled behind him. His eyes wandered here and there because that wasn't the daughter he had promised to Hale; she was the little girl he had helped from the water 2 years ago, while his own daughter was busy fighting for her life, but now Mr Hale wanted this daughter and he didn't dare upset him.
