A few hours went by as the weather cleared up. It was almost sunset, hidden behind the clouds still prevailing. I was still talking to the lady.
"After that you just ran away here? What about your belongings?" I was questioning her about her past since I had nothing else to do.
"Objects don't hold memories, its the memories which hold the objects. You can throw away an object and still hold it in your memory, but you cannot throw away your memories and hold them inside objects. Leaving that place made me everything I am."
"You didn't say your name yet, I'm Festor Linen." I curiously said.
"My name is Elise Cyanne, thanks for sheltering me from the bad weather. I must take my leave before it gets too dark, I am having some busy days, you see." It was a goodbye.
I bid farewell to her and returned to my room. I had learned so much about the current situation of myself and it was not very pleasing except for the money, which was 6 gold coins I received from Elise. The currency inside the country was the ranking based. It was 20 copper coins for 1 silver coin and 10 silver coins for 1 gold coin. The average income of a peasant was 15 to 25 silver coins per month. The coins were issued by the finance department and contained a very small amount of magic with a special code inside them, making it almost impossible to duplicate them. This was the deciding factor of whether currency was real or not, if you can duplicate it, its not real. Of course and not everyone was a magic master, people with high magic skills took it as a job, verifying purchases by checking the currency at money banks.
The magic level of a person was divided into seven categories.
1. [Seeker] -> Those who can sense and use magic at the very basic levels.
2. [Bind] -> Those who had a very small limited magic pool which couldn't be increased through training but could use magic well.
3. [General] -> These were the people who were given permits to adventures and access to restricted areas when in a group of more than three people. It was a way to make living by killing magic beasts and selling their hides, meats and lost magic items.
4. [Soarer] -> These people were given priorities by the government and were allowed to enlist in the royal army. They were strong enough to handle eight to ten generals at once and had to pass an intelligence test for getting this rank.
5. [Wanderer] -> These were the people who had an innate magic talent for battle. They had large mana pools. Some of the known talents are sorcery, sword skills and strong healing abilities.
6. [Hero] -> People strong enough to face an army of thousands of Wanderers alone, only a few hundreds of them exist. The royal court records for all ranks above Soarer. If you qualify as a Hero then you would get a 100 gold coin payment from the royal treasury per month and in return you would protect the kingdom from outsider invasions and high ranking monster raids.
7. [???????] -> Nobody knows about the name or the identity of the 7th rank. It was created by the mages of the past who were stronger than Hero rank. They made it for an uncalled event when such event occurs that even Heroes can't match someone's strength. There hasn't been any record of a person surpassing a hero and the rank itself is a myth. A person of this rank was supposedly the strongest person, capable of conquering the entire universe.
I don't necessarily trust her word for it, it was a sloppy explanation and power scaling. You could get your magic assessment twice a year at a six month gap during the 6th and 12th months, the months of magical events. Many regional and local duels and games were organized at the main Adventurer Halls and their branches. You could get an assessment there. The time for assessment was approaching with one and half a month remaining. It was about time I started practicing magic.
I went to sleep after eating the remaining leftover food.
