Chapter 14 - Nick's story

I was a bit eccentric as a child. My parents were both detectives and they spoilt me rotten. They loved me a lot as I was their only child. I had heard their first girl child died due to miscarriage. They were always looking out for me and I loved them too.

I loved scrambling their work papers and reading them for fun. While reading I came across an initial named "VD". I thought nothing of it at that time.

I loved playing football at evenings. It was like a routine to me. As always, I wore my uniform and went out to play bidding goodbye to my parents.

I never would have thought when I came back both of my parents would be covered in blood. I couldn't believe my eyes. It was like a scene from the movies. There was a teenager holding a knife. He turned back and glared at me. I could not move at all. I could not even scream. He just took tiny little steps and walked out of our house.

I completely broke down that day. I experienced a mixed feeling of anguish and sorrow. I wanted revenge. I could not think of anything else at that time. I wanted to kill his loved ones. I wanted him to experience the same pain I went through.

I took the same path my parents did. I became a detective. I learnt that they were working on a top secret mission. They were secretly gathering evidence against a dark organization. They called themselves "Viper's Den". The organization was filled with malicious people. They raised notorious killers from around the world and sent them on missions. The reason my parents died is because they were too close to the truth.

There was a particular man that the organization cherished dearly. He was the man I saw that day, the one who killed my parents, Alexander. Around the time, I learnt about him, he had run away from the organization. I searched for him desperately. I couldn't find him no matter how much I searched. The organization was also turning the world upside down looking for him.

Coincidentally one of my informant found a man with a similar description in Ravenwood. His age matched with what I remember. Though his hair color was different from red, I knew that it was definitely him. My gut feeling told me that it was the man who murdered my parents.

I set for the town quickly and entered AREA MONSTA. I knew Alexander does not trust people easily or even has an emotion called love to speak of. Hence I became his friend and gained his trust. I waited until he loved someone. I knew my patience would pay off one day.
