Chapter 27 - The Perfect Mask

At work I became a machine.

I cracked jokes with colleagues, hit deadlines, even joined them for lunch.

No one suspected the storm behind my eyes.

In a way, I enjoyed it. Pretending to be fine made me feel like I was holding the upper hand.

Sometimes I caught my reflection in the office window — smiling, but the eyes were cold.

I barely recognized myself anymore.
