Kane POV
I darted to Knox's side, he screamed grabbing at his chest.
I turned to Mandy, shock plastered over her face. "Get a healer now!" I bellowed.
She ran out of the room, the other girls following her.
Knox breathed heavily. Steadying himself against me. A low growl emerged from his chest.
"Knox what happened? Are you okay?" I asked worriedly.
He turned to face me, eyes black. His wolf at the surface, snarling- "He hurt mate."
Shit.
The door flew open, an old lady with long white hair rushed inside. She placed a hand on Knox's chest, whispering cantations, barely audible.
She stepped back from him, a look in her eyes I could quite place. Disgust. Disappointment.
"He damaged the mate bond." She said simply.
Knox still panting, face screwed up in pain.
"How do we heal him" I asked, words rushed in a panic.
"He needs to heal the bond, regain trust and heal her" she paused tilting her head.
"Unless he plans to reject her….. in which case. They both. Will die." I shot my eyes up to the healer is complete shock.
Rejecting mate bond was painful, but I'd never known it to kill.
The healers eyes had misted over. White. Her face pointing up.
I held my breath. In what felt like forever the healer suddenly snapped her head to me. Eyes returning normal.
"If Alpha Knox rejects Callie… they will both perish. Deathshadow pack will devide. Alphas at war." She said eerily.
A cold shiver shot down my spine. I turned to face Knox, his eyes squeezed shut, low growls escaping him.
"Then he must accept the bond" I said with absolution.
The healer nodded and turned to make her leave.
I mindlinked Jax "Is Callie okay" in a whispered tone. I knew she wouldn't be alright, not if she'd felt what Knox had.
"She is with me and Alfie" is all Jax replied. Short and abrupt before closing the mind like and blocking me out.
I sighed. I knew coming here was a mistake, I thought Knox was all mouth, and when it came to it the mate bond would prevent him doing anything so reckless. My wolf screamed at me the minute I'd make the decision to accompany Knox to the club. How could he ignore his wolf so easily?
I pulled Knox up on his feet. He refused to make eye contact with me, still not speaking a word.
We settle into the car, silence consuming the small space. I set my hands on the wheel.
"You can't reject her Knox" I said plainly.
He grunted.
"Why are you finding it so hard to accept the bond?" I asked frustration begining to consume me.
Silence.
I gripped the steering wheel, my knuckles turning white. I let out a shakey breathe before driving back back to the pack house.
"Kane?" My mothers voices filled my head sweetly as I drove in silence.
"Kane! Answer me this minute!" A little sharper this time. I sighed and opened the mind link " yes mother?"
"Why did the healer visit Knox, is he alright? Is he hurt? What happened?" She rushed all at once. My jaw ticked, agitated I had to discuss this now. "He's fine" I gritted out.
"Come home, your father needs to speak with you both" she said, her tone undeniably annoyed.
"On our way, mother." I responded plainly before closing the mind link.
"Father needs to see us" I said to Knox, he was staring out the window, continuing to ignore me.
