Jax POV
She looked so small, fragile laying between me and Alfie. She'd drifted off to sleep, her breathing shallow. We'd laid there watching her chest rise and fall, her mouth parted slightly.
She smelled perfect,my wold purred peacefully, content she was in our arm.
But I couldn't shake the anger bubbling in my blood. Knox knew our mate was here, in hospital no less, already fragile and he had the balls to hurt her further.
The thought made Reaper growl lowly.
"Mate. Mine." He rumbled.
I sighed inwardly.
She was perfect. Fate had brought her to us. Uncovered her true identity and filled a space in our hearts we didn't know was missing.
Ours. For me and Alfie I knew this to be true.
Knox and Kane had always been … different from us. The younger two, joined together leading each other into trouble since we were kids. Knox had always been stubborn, hard headed. Fulfilling his own personal needs and agenda. Whilst Kane, he was more juvenile, led easily with a happy go lucky attitude.
Left to them the pack would fall apart. Become weak.
I felt my whole life had been a series of clearing up their mistakes. Alfie and I had to grow up quicker. Be the leaders we were always meant to be.
I'd always thought finding my mate would bring me that missing piece, a joy and excitement for life. Don't get me wrong I feel those things having her here in my arms. But it's overshadowed by the wrongdoings of Knox and Kane and her we are, once again, picking up the prices they left shattered behind them.
"I think I need to go for a run" Alfie broke my train of thought, rubbing his hands on his face.
I offered him a half smile. I knew exactly how he felt.
He looked down to our sleeping Callie, brushing a strand of her fiery hair away from her face and placing a gentle kiss to her temple.
She sighed deeply. Still asleep, looking more beautiful. Content. Safe.
"I will stay and mind link you when she wakes" I said.
Alfie nodded and slowly moved off the bed, trying not to wake her.
I mindlinked him -"take Jaz with you, she's been here everyday with Callie, her wolf probably needs it."
Alfie nodded and gently woke Jaz up, she started at first, eyes shooting to Callie. When she realised everything was fine she followed Alfie out of the hospital room.
Callie turned into my chest, she breathed in my scent before nuzzling in and pulling me closer. Her hand gripped my shirt as if protesting in her sleep she didn't want me to leave. I wrapped my arms around her, letting her scent fill me nose and smooth me.
I still could not shake my growing anger.
"Son, we need to talk." Our fathers voice filled my mind as I was about to drift off. I sighed inwardly -"what is it father?" I asked coolly.
"The pack healer has sent word of Knox's behaviour regarding your mate. He and Kane are on their way back to the pack house. We need to discuss her vision" my fathers word splayed in my mind. Vision? What vision.
A chill sent shivers down my spine, my muscles tensed. Reaper paced in my mind.
This wouldn't be good.
"I can't leave Callie right now, she's fragile… Alfie is out for a run. He should be near the pack house by now" I replied before shuting the mind link and blocking any further interruptions.
I needed this, my mine craved the quiet and peace laying here with Callie brought me.
"Jax..um…Jax" a melodic voice called softly pulling me from sleep.
I opened my eyes, they burned from the bright hospital lights. I looked to the wall and saw it had been a few hours. I must've drifted off with Callie in my arms.
I looked down to see two shining emerald eyes looking back up at me.
"Hey darling" I spoke softly. "Did you rest well?"
She smiled sweetly, her eyelashes fluttered as she continued looking up at me.
"Yes, thank you… for looking after me" Callie said looking away briefly. My heart ached, she was still so shy, reserved with us. I feared Knox and kanes actions would only strain our relationship more.
I quickly mindlinked Alfie to let him know Callie was awake before getting up and pulling the jug of water and glass towards me " Do you need a drink darling?" I asked her worriedly.
She nodded politely, reaching for the glass of water I'd poured. I watched her intently as she took a few mouthfuls.
She was beautiful. I couldn't tear my eyes away.
There was a knock at the door, I looked up, my mother stood in the doorway with Alfie and Kane.
"We need to sort this out" she said in absolution.
