Chapter 21 - Back to work

Callie's POV

We had got back to Jaz's place quite late, we ordered some take out and settled in early for the night. Jaz had some errands to run before work so I'd settled myself on the sofa while I waited for the time I needed to begin getting ready.

"Look what I've got you!" Jaz's voice sang out jovially as she opened the front door.

A grin spread across my face. Jaz had truly spoilt me these last weeks, spending time together, talking and inviting me into her home when she didn't even know me. She was quickly becoming my favourite person.

"What is it?" I laughed.

As she enter the living room I noted the amount of shopping bags she dragged either side of her.

"Hear me out okay" she beamed as she set the bags down, raising her hands to demonstrate her friendly intentions.

"I'm all ears" I said sceptically.

"Yay! Okay close your eyes" she spoke, excitement dripping off her.

I obliged.

After hearing her rummaging through a few of the bags she finally said "open!"

On the back of the door hung two incredible dresses. The first a vibrant, sexy red with a criminally low neckline and dangerously high spilt seam bodycon. The second, forrest green, strapless and sweatheart neckline fitted dress.

My mouth gawked open.

"They're stunning" I drawled out.

"Aren't they?!? I thought we deserved new outfits to celebrate you coming back to work!" She squealed, pride radiating off of her for the idea.

I stood there taking it all in, before I could process anything I grabbed Jaz into a hug -"thank you, you don't know what this means to me" I whispered, tears threatening to spill.

Growing up an orphan I never really had the chance to settle in one place for very long. I was constantly loosing friends and family to the point I stopped even trying to make any. My belongings got moved around so much that items got misplaced or sometimes even stolen so I never bothers having anything nice, despite working so hard and being comfortable in terms of money.

This gesture meant the world to me.

We quickly started getting ready, I hopped in the shower, steam filling the bathroom. Once clean, I stepped out and wrapped a towel around myself. I sat in front of the mirror, scanning the makeup I did own to see what would suit the dress best. I chose a smokey eyeshadow with a light sprinkling of gold glitter and some mascara. For the lips I chose an elegant sheer nude lipgloss.

Once I'd finished drying my hair I went to the lounge to collect the dress I'd be wearing tonight.

The fabric was figure hugging with flecks of gold scattered the neckline. As I picked up the hanger I spotted the non-existent back… looks like it's no bra tonight.

I took the dress back into the bathroom to change. I slipped the towel off and stepped into the gown.

I stared at my reflection in the full length mirror. I almost didn't recognise myself. The dress clung to my breasts giving them a fuller look. It followed the curve of my waist, hips and thighs stopping a couple inches short of my knees. I turned to the side to see what I look like from the back. The open back trailed down to my bum, my bum looked incredible. I felt a wave of confidence wash over me. I'd never felt sexy before, hell I'd never even had so much as a kiss. But now. I felt I could take on the world in this dress.

When we finally reached the club the door was shut. Jaz pulled out her key and we entered. Inside, music was playing, there were a few girls on stage practicing a dance routine. Levi stood leaning against the bar watching them between glancing at his phone.

When the door clicked shut behind us, Levi looked up towards us, his eyebrows raised in surprise and he let out a wolf whistle. "You're not supposed to show up the performing acts you know?" He said to Jaz smugly, raising an eyebrow.

She giggled "don't we look amazing" as she flicked a piece of hair over her shoulder.

That's when Levi looked to me, his face paled, mouth open slightly.

"Do the alphas know you're here Callie?" He said nervously.

I sighed and rolled my eyes.

They don't get to control me just because they're supposedly fated to me by some Moon Goddess that I'd only heard of two weeks ago.

"Does it matter?" I replied coolly.

I wasn't about to stop having a job, one I actually rather enjoyed because a few men told me not too. Mates or not. And at this moment in time they were not.
