Callie's POV
Alfie had prepared a delicious dish of bacon, eggs and fresh berries. My mouth watered, I couldn't remember the last time I'd had a hot breakfast, especially one that looked like this. Alfie had presented the plate of food on a tray, on one side a glass of juice and water, the other side a small vase with a single yellow rose.
I smiled at the effort Alfie had gone through, how did he know yellow roses were my favourite. Alfie settle in beside me, Jax was sat the other side, checking emails on his phone.
As I lifted the fork to mouth to take the first bite the door feel open with a loud thud.
Alfie and Jax sat up defensively.
It was Knox.
Shaking with anger, his eyes black like his wolf's.
I gasp escaped my mouth.
Jax stood immediately.
"What are you doing here?" He barked.
"I came to see if it was true, that you've been fucking our mate!" I Knox fired back.
Somthing flashed in Jax's eyes.
Alfie stood, closing in on Knox.
"And? What's. It. To. You." He gritted out, an unnerving calmness in his tone.
"She belongs to all of us, she's not yours to gatekeep and hide away!" Knox shouted.
I felt that same stir inside, my anger at boiling point.
"You didn't feel that was when you put your cock in some sluts mouth!" Jax shouted.
Tears built in my eyes, threatening to spill those words sliced my heart open all over again.
I watched in horror as Knox's fist connected with Jax's face.
"Stop! Please stop!" I cried out.
Alfie rushed at Knox, tackling him to the floor. His hands gripped Knox's throat.
"Stop it!" I shouted again, tears spilling down my cheeks.
The two continued to struggle in their brawl ofn the floor, Jax shouted at Alfie to stop, trying to pull him from Knox. Alfie's wolf was at the front now, his eyes dark. Jax looked at me, fear glistening in his eyes.
My fear then turned to anger, that same feeling of my wolf flowed over my entire body. My hands clenched in fists, muscles shaking. A tingling feeling started in my palms.
I clenched my jaw, eyes shut tight then I growled "ENOUGH!"
The room fell silent, I opened my eyes, breathing heavy, Alfie had frozen above semi-unconscious Knox, Jax stood in the middle of the room, both held they head low. Were they bowing to me?
"C,Callie…p,please…stop" Jax said through gritted teeth, head still bowed, face pained.
His words made me pause, I blinked. Then suddenly both men let out shakey breaths. They looked at each other, vacant expression on their faces.
The sounds of panting filled the silence of the room.
I stared at the men in front of me, confusion engulfed my mind. Why did they ask me to stop? I didn't do anything… did I?
"What the fuck was that?" Kanes voice swept into the room like a storm.
I sat there, trying to piece the events together.
"That. Was Callie." Jax said, a hint of pride in his voice.
Kane shot a shocked look towards me.
"She's the Alpha Luna" Alfie said as though in a state of shock.
Alpha Luna. What are they talking about? They were alphas not me. Jaz told me she wolves couldn't be alphas. My mind clouded with confusion.
"I need to go.." Alfie said as he left abruptly.
I looked at Jax, his eyes beamed, but the half smile plastered on his face told me somthing was going on. So much for no secrets.
"What's an Alpha Luna?" I asked puzzled.
Kane looked at Jax worriedly then back to Knox as if suddenly remembering he was laid on the floor unconscious.
"Shit, I need to take him to the healer" Kane mumbled before lifting Knox and half dragging him out of the room, I heard his voice in the corridor followed by some "yes alphas."
Jax came and sat beside me, he moved the tray of food to the bedside before taking my hands in his.
"The Alpha Luna, is a story we tell our children." Confusion spiralled in me as Jax spoke.
"It's sort of like a fairy tale."
My frown deepened- "what's that got to do with me?"
I seriously hoped they weren't using this opportunity to bring up the conversation about us having children.
"The story of the Alpha Luna is a tale of two packs. Both with strong alphas, brothers in fact. In previous years the pack had been one, but the brothers argued about who would become Alpha, their father decided to spilt the pack equally, giving both brothers an opportunity at being Alpha. The first brother, sensible and mature led his pack from strength to strength, the pack grew prosperous, despite not having a Luna yet."
I sat on the bed next to Jax like a three year old being told a story about magic for the first time. Hanging onto every word.
"And the second brother" I urged, Jax chuckled -"The second brother, squandered his power and responsibilities, focusing on his material needs and gain. He choose to take a chosen mate, not leaving his fate to the Moon Goddess. After a few years passed, the second brothers pack was in ruin. His people hungry, dying and sick. His Luna rejected him, calling him a failure. She took her share of riches and left."
"Go on.." I said impatiently.
Jax continued-"The first brother visited his brothers pack to offer him support and to help his people after hearing the state of it all. There he found his fated mate.
When he took her to his brother to celebrate him finding her he was met with rage. Despite not actually knowing or caring for his pack members he refused to let her leave the pack with his brother."
"What did she do?" I asked wide eyed.
"She begged and pleaded but it was no use, her alpha threw her into his cells. The brothers went to war against eachother.
The mood Goddess was furious at the second brothers actions. Keeping apart fated mates intentionally was an act of defiance she wouldn't tolerate and war that killed innocents was a huge wrongdoing."
A chill ran down my spine.
"The Mood Goddess bestowed the woman with powers. Powers that would end the war. She was as strong as an Alpha and gentle as a Luna. Her abilities included immunity to silver, manipulation of the elements and use the Alpha aura."
He paused wrapping his arm around me, I settled in waiting to hear the rest.
"The woman used her abilities to escape the cells, she met the brothers on the battlefield. Using her new powers to end the war. Once the second brother was defeated she and her mate completed the mate bond and united the pack. They named her the Alpha Luna."
We sat there silenced, letting our thoughts drift.
"But I still don't get what that has to do with me." I broke out.
"Legend says the Alpha Luna's powers are reborn every couple hundred years in the bloodline. Always a first born daughter. Her powers will emerge within her 19th year."
Jax explained.
I let that information sink in. I didn't quite understand why they'd called me the Alpha Luna. I didn't have any powers and my birthday was… tomorrow.
"I'm not 19 until tomorrow, so I can't be the Alpha Luna thingy" I said.
Alfie strode back in the room, clutching a very dusty looking book.
"Look!" He urged as he opened the page, pointing to an illustration.
My eyes scanned the page.
Jax's mouth dropped open, I rubbered my eyes as if I'd imagined the whole thing.
"Look, that's Callie, Callie is the Alpha Luna." Alfie said triumphantly.
I mean sure the image of the woman had a certain likeness to me… but there are lots of red headed, green eyed wolf shifters..right?
"And look at this." Alfie said as her turned the page.
There was a beautiful white wolf with golden eyes and a golden crescent moon on its ears. Next to it was the same woman… and on her neck, beside her mate mark…a glowing crescent moon.
"It's the mark of the moon goddess, they appear once her true mate marks her" Alfie rushed out.
They both turned to look at me.
So much for taking things slow.
