Chapter 31 - Shining Cresent

Kane's POV

After seeing and feeling what Callie did the other day in Jax's room, I decided it was time we found out who she really was.

I'd spent the day looking through the packs public library but didn't find anything useful.

Mother had mindlinked me to tell me Knox had woken up and was fine, I sighed a sigh of relief.

Although I was mad at him, at all of them, they were still my brothers and mate.

I'd hoped they could sort it out but when I saw the look in Alfie's eyes the day he attacked Knox, I didn't see that happening anytime soon.

I began walking back to the pack house, on my way I bumped into Jaz.

"Sorry my mind was elsewhere.." I mumbled.

"That's okay, I was rushing home to get ready for later."

Later. What was happening later? I raised my eyebrow in confusion.

"Oh didn't they tell you, I thought one of them would have mindlinked you." Jaz said as she noted my expression.

"Who didn't tell me?" I responded.

"I was just with your brothers and Callie. She's coming over to mine later so we can have some girl time. Knox and Alfie didn't look like they wanted her to leave, probably the mate bond." She added.

Knox and Alfie were together. That couldn't be good.

I excused myself and rushed to the pack house.

I quickly asked the housekeeper to let me know where my brothers where since they hadn't replied to my mind links in recent days.

She informed me they were in the alphas private library.

I rushed there, as I opened the door, they all stood together, Jax in front holding up a map book.

"What's going on?" I breathed out in a panic.

All eyes shot to me.

Callie was the first to respond "I have a pack."

Her emerald eyes filled with she'd tears, her body shaking. I felt a tug in my heart.

I walked to her and pulled her into my chest, wrapping my arms around her.

She melted into me. Sobbing into my shirt.

I had so many questions for my brothers but they could wait for now.

After I gave Callie a few moments to catch her breath. I brushed her crimson hair away from her face "Why are you sad, love? Are you not happy to find your pack?" I said gently.

"I..no..I don't want to know who my family are." She finally stuttered out.

I looked to my brothers we all shared the same confused expression.

Jax approached Callie with his arms open, she embraced him and gripped his shirt as he wrapped her in his arms. She looked calmer with him. A jolt of jealousy passed through me. I brushed it off. She was our mate. We needed to share her, there was no need to be jealous.

"I promised myself I wouldn't find them, they didn't deserve to know me after everything." She finally spoke.

"Everything? What do you mean darling?" Jax replied softly.

"Everything! My life, the horrible childhood, the fake heart murmur, the secret wolf identity. How could they give me away and let that happen to me?" She burst into fresh tears.

"You don't need to do anything or meet anyone you don't want to. I promise Callie, we can do it for you and only share with you what you wish… but we need to find out where you came from, what happened to your parents, your pack. It could give us clues as to who's trying to hurt you." Knox spoke softly.

Callie looked up from Jax's chest, there was a glimmer of somthing in her eyes. She sniffled, drying her eyes with her sleeve. She shifted slightly before walking over to Knox.

He looked uneasy, as if waiting for her to lash out at him or send him away. But she didn't. Callie reached up on her tip toes and gently kissed Knox on his cheek before wrapping her arms around his waste.

He looked dumbfounded. He blinked, in shock before wrapping his arms around her.

I looked to Jax, he smiled at them and gestured for us to give them a moment alone. We turned back to the table.

I mindlinked Jax. "Care to fill me in at all? Why did no one tell me you were all here looking into this. I have been at the pack library all day, alone, trying to get answers!" I growled.

"Calm down, I'll tell you later while Callie's out. Just let them have their moment." Jax replied calmly before closing the mindlink.

I looked back over my shoulder. Callie and Knox were still stood in each others arms. Knox looked… he looked relieved and Callie seemed peaceful.

Maybe I had been worrying about the prophecy for nothing.

Alfie elbowed Jax and me gently, pointing to a page in the book he was studying.

The text was about Shining Cresent pack.

It was one of the oldest packs on record and matched the name of the pack boarders on Jax's map.

I looked closer towards Alfie's book.

The pages described how Shining Cresent was home to the original Alpha Luna and true pack members could be identified by their wolves fur. The whole pack had white wolves.

I'd never seen an all white wolf before, they at least had coloured paws or patches.

I heard footsteps approach behind me, Callie's arm snaked around my waist, I looked down to her briefly as I wrapped my arm around her shoulder. Alfie the other side was sat in a chair which she had situated herself on his lap.

"It's the mate bond." Alfie's voice came in my mind.

"Huh?"

"You need to control your facial expression more." Alfie chuckled before continuing "Callie's sudden need for physical contact from us. It's the mate bond, this is the first time since meeting her we've all been in the same room. Her wolf craves us even though Callie's unaware. Her wolf's making sure we don't leave." Alfie explained.

Well that made sense. I'd expected Callie to be angry at us all, especially Knox. But she appears calm, reserved and peaceful.

I nodded and continued reading the book in front of us.
