Chapter 30 - Maps

Callie's POV

Alfie was pacing the library, studying pack records, trying to figure out what was happening to me.

His face had been in a permanent state of concentration and deep frowning for the last few days.

I sighed, looking out the window watching the warriors train.

It was fascinating and terrifying watching them shift into their wolves. I was skeptically excited about experiencing it myself one day.

I'd been feeling different since what happened in Jax's bedroom, more aware of myself and my surroundings. Like my sight had improved tenfold.

I hadn't told the boys, they'd both been so busy, consumed by trying to find answers, I didn't want to add to their stress.

My phone buzzed, I looked down and saw Jaz had text me:

Hey, haven't seen you since the club. I was hoping we could meet up and continue your training x

For some reason a feeling of unease washed over me, I shook it off and lifted my phone to reply.

Hey, I'm at the pack house, Jax and Alfie have been helping me train. Maybe you could join us? X

I set my phone down, Alfie was still muttering to himself, engrossed in paper which looked like they hadn't seen the light of day in centuries.

The door clicked open, Alfie's head instantly shot up, his shoulders tensed.

Jax walked in eyeing Alfie as if trying to pacify him.

Alfie turned away and continued reading. As Jax moved closer into the room a figure appeared in the doorway.

My stomach instantly filled with butterflies and something else I couldn't quite place.

When the figure finally came into the room I couldn't take my eyes off him.

It was Knox.

Jax cleared his throat before speaking "Callie,Alfie" he began.

"Don't!" Alfie cut him off, never looking up from his papers.

Jax sighed and gestured for Knox to explain himself.

Knox shifted uncomfortably "I… Callie, I've been and idiot. More than an idiot. I don't blame you if you want to reject me but I need to tell you somthing first." He said.

I felt my heart ache for him, he looked terrible, the bruises on his face still not completely healed, his eyes drenched in turmoil and pain.

Why did I feel bad for him, he betrayed me. He never gave me a chance.

"I spoke to the Moon Goddess." He shot out, filling the silence in the room.

Everyone turned to him, including Alfie.

I looked between them, they're faces unreadable as though speaking telepathically.

Well I guess they were.

"Umm sorry, can someone explain what he's talking about?" I asked.

They looked back to me, Knox being the first to speak -" she came to me, while I was unconscious. She and Havoc appeared in a field. They spoke to me."

I was lost again.

"Who's Havoc?" I asked.

"Havoc is his wolf, mine is Reaper, Alfie's is Hunter and Kanes is Gunner." Jax clarified.

"Cute.. names?" I replied slowly, wondering why they all sounded so.. aggressive.

Alfie chuckled slightly "We don't name them Callie. They come to us already named by the Moon Goddess. As yours will."

Oh.

I shifted uncomfortably before changing the subject "so what did the she say?" I said looking to Knox.

"Selene said you're the Alpha Luna. A direct descendant of the original, her own daughter. She emphasised that so I think it's important we find out where you came from." Knox explained.

My mind whirled, I'd never wanted to learn who my true family was. Being and orphan I'd grown up longing for them, especially when I was stuck in the bad homes. But when I became 18 and had control over my own life, I promised myself I didn't need them or want to know them. They'd abandoned me, they didn't deserve to know how I turned out.

"The moon goddess, she warned me that someone in the pack was trying to hurt us and would use Callie to do it." Knox suddenly said.

We turned to him, eyebrows raised questioningly.

"Who?" Jax growled.

Knox shrugged." She didn't say, it was like she was talking in riddles, not giving real information away. All she said was Havoc would sense them and I needed to listen to him."

Alfie tutted, "great so we'll never know because you never listen to your wolf, even though he's he sensible one."

Jax put his arm up, between them. "We're not doing this, we're brothers, if someone is after Callie we need to find them and end it. She is our only priority now. This fighting stops here, before you kill eachother." Jax warned, his tone unarguable.

Knox and Alfie eyed eachother for a second, Knox reached his hand out, it hovered there for a heartbeat before Alfie took it in his and they shook.

I watched as Alfie and Jax filled Knox in on everything they had learned. As they were deep in conversation there was a gentle knock at the door.

The boys didn't even look up so I stood to see who it was.

That feeling of unease grew in me again.

I pushed it back, ignoring it.

As I opened the door I was greeted by Jaz, she rushed in and grabbed me in her arms for a hug.

"Oh I've missed you!" She exclaimed.

"Hi.. I um.. I missed you too" I replied, uncomfortably with the over friendliness.

Alfie broke away from the other and came over to the doorway where I stood with Jaz.

"Hi Jaz, I'm sorry but you can't be in here, there are confidential pack records in this room. Alphas and lunas are the only ones with access. I'm sure you understand." He said professionally.

Jaz pouted. "I just wanted to see Callie"

Alfie was about to argue but I stopped him "How about I come over to yours tonight?, we can have a catch up." I said, trying to appear excited.

I liked Jaz, truly. But I wasn't one to really have friends. The whole girly best friend thing, it just wasn't me.

A smile spread on Jaz's face " Okay! See you later tonight!" She said as she left.

Alfie eyed the door briefly before shrugging it off and returning to the others.

"Hey, I think I have something here." Jax's voice called.

Everyone looked to the book I front of him.

It was filled with maps, old maps.

"What is that map for?" I asked, peering under Alfie's arm, trying to get a look at what the boys were doing.

Jax turned to me, holding the book up.

"I think this is your pack, where you came from." He said.

My mind went blank. I could hear my heartbeat thumping in my head, drowning out their voices.

I had a pack.
