Chapter 3 - I Have an Allergy to Sunlight

They started collecting supplies. Apparently, Lisa has some kind of 'storage.' Back in my world, we call it as 'Spatial' magic.'

Lisa collected all kind of food items and essentials. Bernard and one of the gunmen guarded us. At this moment, he was holding two guns because his other friend was busy handing items to Lisa. Except Bernard and Lisa, he has an ability which involved speed. Only these three are the humans with an ability.

I sat on the ground and watched them with interest. You know, it was really interesting to watch them, trying their best to survive... even when they knew it was inevitable. Do they believe they have some kind of future for them?

Painfully, yes.

Their souls were wrapped up in a bubble of delusion, which made it more interesting to watch. Let's see how long they can keep this up, without losing their hope.

Allafe's memories told me that this... 'apocalypse' started three months ago.

In the first month, humanities tried to contain the 'virus.' Although, some suggested it was God's punishment. It made me laugh when I first saw that memory.

Why would God try to punish these imbecile creatures? He must have some better work to do than to punish these worms. Back in our world, we have the existence of Gods as well... yet, I don't pray to them.

Why would I? They weren't alive. Our ancestors killed them... slaughtered them like pigs. Then, humans killed them. So, in memory of them both humans and vampires began praying them. Bunch of fools!

Where was I? Yeah, the humans tried to contain it. Alas! They couldn't. Their simplistic minds thought they could study it and harness its power. But it backfired on them.

In the second month, it began to spread. Humans turned into brainless monsters, attacking their own kind. These monsters forgot everything. It was as if they had no souls. The only thing that they want was human flesh. They even attacked their own families, turning them into monsters like them. Cities were destroyed. Countries were decimated into the ground, dyed red in colour with blood. Their rampage destroyed everything in their path.

In third month, the governments were no longer in power. Armies took control. They tried to fight but failed. The monsters were too many. They could use nuclear attack, but it would destroy them as well. The humans divided into two groups.

Exploiter.

Exploited.

The darkest nature of humanity came into surface in the third month. Lawlessness became the only norm. 'Exploiters' began to abuse and exploit the weaker section. With no one to control, murders and rapes became a normal thing in the apocalypse. Human beings, with no powers, were sold like they were animals. My body's 'owner' was one of the people who got sold... but who sold her... was a mystery. I couldn't find it inside Allafe's memories. Must be because of my 'temporary' weakness.

The fourth month has just started. But honestly, human beings always turned against each other even at the slightest of odds, and I am not blaming the 'zombies.' Although, vampires weren't any better. I am the best example, aren't I?

Suddenly, Bernard clapped his hands and said, "We have collected the supplies. Now, let's head out. It's still afternoon. We have to find somewhere safe to spend the night."

Afternoon?

So, the sun is still out there. Hmmm... it seems that I have a problem.

What?

Do you think the sun will kill me? That's my problem?

No. Unlike my ancestors, I don't have this problem. Years of practice has made us immune to sunlight... but the thing is... I, and my kind... still have some side effects... an 'allergy.' Our eyes turn completely black in sunlight, which exposes our identity. So, we have to wear sunglasses when we go out in the sun.

"Look here everyone, we have a celebrity amongst us! Valeria, we aren't going on a vacation. Why are you wearing sunglasses? On top of that, you are also wearing a hat," mocked Lisa. She was giving me a sarcastic look.

I stuttered, "I-I can't... w-withstand s-sunlight entering... into my eyes. I-I have... a-an a-a-allergy."

Luckily, I was in place where I could find not only clothes, but also other fashion accessories. I chose the best sunglasses and hat out of all the choices I had. The hat even had a floral design. I looked really cute.

"What kind of allergy is this?" asked a man, who had a scared look on his face. He was half-bald and had a long beard. Oh, how did I not see this man before? Out of all them, he had the most cowardly attitude.

Bernard sighed, "Just leave it. It's getting late, and let her wear whatever she wants."

"Of course, you wouldn't be able to bear to see her look sad, would you?" sneered Lisa.

'Ginger' grabbed her left shoulder and said, "Lisa, please just let it go. Zombies are getting near to us with each passing second."

Hmmm... I could hear those 'cretins' growling as well as the sound of their disbalanced steps.

Tch! I wanted to stay and see how they looked in real life. But I can't. These humans plan to get out of this place as soon as possible.

Bernard said, "You four, take the car. Me, Yusuf and Valeria will take the van."

Lisa snorted loudly and went into the car. Ginger, 'Coward' and one of the men with the gun followed her into it.

Similarly, I went into the van along with Bernard and Yusuf, who was the other man with the gun and 'Speed' ability.

Bernard was the one who would lead the way, and so it was obvious that he was the driver of our van.

Yusuf cleaned his gun and put it back into its holster. He asked, "So, Valeria... what did you do before the apocalypse?"

I lied, "I was a teacher. Kindergarten teacher."

"Is that so? I thought you were a model. I mean, you have that... look. That beautiful and sexy look. Not in a bad way! In a good way," said Yusuf. He was laughing awkwardly at the end.

"Thank you," I laughed.

I could hear Bernard grit his teeth in anger when he heard me laugh. Oops! Someone is jealous~ I didn't say anything anymore and looked at the road ahead.

For some reason, the road was clear... except, there were a few broken cars lying beside the road.

"We have to stop at a gas station. The fuel is too low for us to go ahead any further. Yusuf, be ready," said Bernard.

Gas station? I smirked internally as I had a feeling something exciting was going to happen there.
