Chapter 14 - The Prophecy

The old woman's appearance was intimidating to say the least. Her face was a map of wrinkles, etched deep into her skin like a map of a thousand midnights.

Her eyes gleamed with an otherworldly intensity, like two stars shining brightly in a dark sky. Her silver hair was wild and unkept sticking out in every direction. She wore a tattered black cloak that billowed behind her like a dark cloud.

Her bony fingers grasped a twisted wooden cane that looked like it had been plucked straight from a witch's lair. Her presence was terrifying.

When she spoke, her voice was low and raspy like the rustling of dry leaves. " The prophecy has foretold of your coming and I have been waiting for a very long time," she said taking a step closer."

The Prophecy?

"You are the chosen," She hissed, the air dripping with an air of foreboding. "The spirits whisper your name and the wind carries your scent. You are the one who will bring balance to the world or plunge it into darkness." She said as she took my hand into hers.

"You must fulfill the prophecy or be consumed by the darkness."

Her eyes seemed to bore into my soul, as if searching for something hidden deep within. Her gaze was unnerving making the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.

'I..I do..don't know what you are talking about," I said my voice like a whisper.

What prophecy was she talking about?

"Your fate is sealed my child," she said as she applied a white powder on my palms which suddenly glowed brighter.

"Luna what do you think you're doing?" Alex walked into the door furious.

"She is the chosen one and must fulfill the prophecy. You know what will happen if she doesn't," she said not letting go of my hand.

"Let go of her," he demanded, his calm face now gone, he looked like a totally different person." Or the King will know about this and am sure you would not want to make the King mad. We both know what he's capable of or do you want me to remind you?"

The woman looked scared and she let go of my hand immediately. She did not say another word, just stared at Alex with hate and disgust in her eyes.

What was happening?
