Chapter 4 - It's my baby! it's my...!

"VANESSA!" Greg yelled as he woke up panting after having a terrifying nightmare. He called vanessa's mansion immediately. A staff answered the phone "where is your boss?!" His voice thundered in an impatient, loud and worried tone "freaking check and let me know!!" He ordered and stayed on the call while the staff went to confirm vanessa's whereabouts. Greg paced in the room impatiently as he waited, few moments later he was informed that vanessa was soundly asleep in her room. He sighed heavily in relief after dropping the call. His throat felt dry and his head hurt slightly due to how sudden he'd woken up. He chugged down a bottle of water he got from the fridge in his room then sank in a couch.

He paced about in the room reflecting on the terrifying dream he had about vanessa while waiting for sunrise.

"Ma'am?" A maid called, bringing vanessa out of her thoughts. "How would you like your coffee today?" The maid asked, her eyes glistening in anticipation of vanessa's response.

"I..." She paused before continuing "no coffee for now please. I'd like tea instead."

"Yes ma'am" the maid responded and left.

Vanessa still had doubts about the whole pregnancy news but if it were true, she wouldn't intentionally hurt the new life forming in her. She overreacted yesterday out of shock, spite and anger, but she was not capable of doing anything rash.

After breakfast, she went upstairs to change for an appointment with her gynaecologist.

Greg drove at mad speed to her mansion. He'd dozed off on the couch while waiting for dawn, he woke up few minutes past ten. He hurriedly dressed up and dashed out of the house like one being chased by an ambush of tigers. He got to her mansion, parked the car and alighted. While he did, he spotted her gynaecologist's car in the garage. "Oh no!" He sounded alarmed. He ran into the building with a barge.

The sound of the doors violently being opened distracted vanessa and her gynaecologist's conversation. They both turned towards the direction of the sound.

"DO NOT PROCEED WITH THE ABORTION!!!" he yelled as the doors swung open.

Vanessa and her gynaecologist gave him a puzzled look. Vanessa dismissed the staff and the guest.

"What are you doing here?" She asked him in a hush tone immediately she shut the doors.

"I.." He tried to speak but she interrupted him.

"Save it, it's done! There's no going back now. I don't know what your intentions were but i'll expose them in due time. For now, please leave and go back to your life. I'll await the court's orders" she said still standing in front of the doors.

"What?!" His skin grew pale, he sank into the nearest seat he could find. He was too late, he bit his lips in regret, he wished he didn't leave yesterday. He's lost the only grip he has on her as his wife forever.

"Why so you lol white washed all of a sudden? Isn't this what you wanted? For a guy who beamed with so much pride yesterday while breaking the news, you seem pretty beat up." She scoffed and rolled her eyes in disgust "has the desire to become a father suddenly die?" She asked, looking fixated at him.

He raised his head and stared at her, like someone who just got a wonderful news but couldn't believe it.

"Congratulations. Whatever stunt you pulled worked. I am two weeks pregnant. Happy?" She walked slowly to the table where he sat, drew a seat and buried her face in her hands while she sobbed uncontrollably.

Greg was moved by her tears, he got up from his seat and walked towards her to comfort her but he stopped midway. He left the room without saying a word.

He returned few minutes later with his team. They walked past vanessa in the sitting room and went upstairs to one of the rooms in the mansion.

Before Vanessa could gather herself and realize what was happening, the team he came with were already fixing the room to his taste and comfort.

"What is going on here?" She asked greg with a furrowed brow.

"I'm moving in" he announced without turning to look at her.

"WHAT?!!" She asked out of shock. "Why?" Her tone sounding more daisy.

Greg chuckled, the question sounded silly in his ears but he didn't fuss about them, he simply led her to a more private space. "Because you have my baby." He replied with a sly.

"True. But it doesn't give you access into my life!" She shot back in defense.

"For the records, i am not coming into your life, i am coming into my child's life. It's a duty for the father of a child to be in his child's life as much as he can afford to. And i have all the time in the world." He replied in a wry tone.

"But..."

"Face it vanessa, you can't raise a child all by yourself." He interrupted whatever excuse she tried to bring up to get rid of him.

She looked at him with all the rage she could muster. He was right in all sense and i'd be foolish to keep arguing with him. Knowing there was nothing that can be said to get rid of him she had to give in. "FINE! But once it's done, you're getting out of my life for good!" She stomped her foot.

"Deal!" He responded.

"While you're here, stay out of my business!" She warned him then stormed out of the room.

"Whatever." Greg muttered knowing he'll do as he pleased. It's his wife, it's his child and it's his life. He's in her life now, that's what mattered the most to him.

The rest of the day was spent in utter silence, except for work sounds that came from the room his team prepared for him. Vanessa went about her day as if she didn't have company in the house, she pondered on how to live out the next nine months with the one person she dreads the most on earth.
