It's been about a week since Daphne woke up and the only person she has seen is her maids and the physicians. She has not laid her eyes on his majesty and she wondered why he hasn't visited her. Was he purposely avoiding her or is he busy? Her thoughts had been running wild and she was tired of laying down on the bed. She feels so numb.
"You have not eaten today, my lady," Agnes said, looking at the tray on the small table beside her. It was night and she has refused to eat at all today.
"I am not hungry," Daphne said.
"But, her lady hasn't eaten anything today," Agnes replied. Daphne looked at her.
"I have been laying on the bed all day, I simply do not have any energy to eat. Why am I being kept here?" she asked. Agnes sighed.
"His majesty asked for you to be here till you fully heal my lady," she said and Daphne rolled her eyes.
"His majesty doesn't get to tell me what to do," she snapped and Agnes gasped in shock.
"My lady, please don't say that. You could be punished," she said and Daphne ignored her, turning around. Staying in this room makes her remember when her father would punish her by locking her up. No contact with anyone except the servant that brings her food. Those were one of her many bad days and she hates to be reminded of it. She is not a prisoner, why is she locked in here? How would she heal if she is not allowed fresh air?
"Excuse us," the deep voice said and Agnes flinched, turning around. Her eyes widened as his majesty stood behind her, has he been standing there since? She bowed her head, walking away. Alexandro looked at her on the bed, she curled herself into a ball, not bothering to acknowledge his presence. He walked to her, sitting on the bed.
"I hate disrespect," he said, looking at her. Daphne turned to look at him.
"And I hate to be locked up in a room like a caged animal," she snapped. Alexandro was shocked, no one has ever talked to him like that since he became king. But why does it feel so refreshing?
"Her lady seems angry," he said, folding his arms.
"Why am I not allowed to go outside? Why am I locked up in this room? The walls are closing up on me and I feel so suffocated, I can't even eat," she complained, her hands moving in different directions. Alexandro chuckled, he never expected to see her so discomposed. She always looks calm and collected, but now she is frustrated and it showed all over her face. He loves to see this side of her.
"Is my frustration funny to his majesty?" Daphne asked, a frown seating on her face. Alexandro chuckled, he couldn't help himself. Just when he thinks she is done showing him all sides of hers, she shows him more sides.
"You are quite funny," he said and Daphne couldn't believe he was laughing at her. She sat up, looking at him as he kept laughing. The more he laughed the more frustrated she got and she couldn't control her hands as she elbowed him slightly in the stomach. Alexandro's laugh got stuck in his throat as his eyes widened in shock. Did she just?
"Stop laughing at me, your majesty, I am about to die of frustration," she said, not realizing what she did. But Alexandro was surprised, he thought he imagined it but the slight sting in his stomach confirmed what she just did.
"Did her lady just put her hands on me?" he asked and Daphne looked at his stomach. Then she gasped as she realized what she just did
"I'm so sorry, your majesty. I didn't realize what I did, I was so lost in my frustrations," she said, quickly. How would she lose herself and do that? He could put a sword to her neck and no one would bat an eye. She was losing all the training her father gave her, that is not ladylike of her. Alexandro elbowed her stomach softly and Daphne looked up surprised.
"It feels nice to have someone treat me like a normal person," he said, smiling at her and she smiled back, happy he wasn't angry.
"Time to eat, princess," he said, carrying the tray up. She looked at the meat and it looked enticing. She is actually hungry, but she figured her stubbornness could probably get her out of the room. Alexandro cut into the perfectly cooked steak, feeding it to her along with the soup. She ate in silence and soon, she emptied the stray, eating the grapes alongside.
"You must have been hungry," he said, looking at the empty plate. She smiled slightly. She truly was. Alexandro dropped the tray and looked at her. He has never fed anyone before, but he was doing it for her, he wonders what has gotten into him.
"The physicians confirmed your head is better and can now be discharged. But, you still have to take your medicine," he said and all Daphne could think was why his majesty cares for her. She can't wrap her head around it.
"How did I get the head injury?" she asked.
"Do not worry about that and focus on your recovery," he said and Daphne smiled. She overheard her maids talking. They thought she was asleep but she heard everything. Why is he trying to hide it from her? Is he trying to protect her or trying to protect queen Rose? Daphne thinks it was the former, he won't have locked her up if he was trying to protect Rose.
But the question remains, why is he trying to protect her? She is not a weakling. Daphne is rather petty and loves to get her revenge on anyone who hurts her. If the queens think they can bully her then they are in for a ride, she would do anything to get her revenge. She is a really petty princess and she got it from her father. Alexandro looked at the smile on her face and he couldn't help but be afraid. What is going on in that head of hers? What could she be thinking? Alexandro knows whatever she is thinking, it's not good. She is planning something.
"I will escort her lady to her chambers," he said, standing up. Daphne nodded her head, coming down from the bed and she shook her head, looking at the dent on the bed. She never wants to be here again.
"Let's leave," he said and she nodded her head, following him. It felt good to stretch her legs, she should go for a walk when the day breaks. They both walked quietly to her chambers and Daphne was enjoying the breeze, ignoring the eyes on them. Soon, they got to her chambers and she turned to him, bowing her head.
"Thank you, your majesty for escorting me to my chambers," she said and Alexandro wondered why she was so close to him so suddenly but he nodded his head.
"Have a goodnight rest," he said, turning his back and walking away. Alexandro headed to his study, where his brother was waiting for him and he fell to the chair weakly.
"Are you okay, brother?" Antonio asked, running to him. Alexandro groaned. She had hit him directly at his injury. Antonio raised his shirt up and he was bleeding. He sighed, getting the first aid, cleaning the blood.
"Did you ask her?" he asked and he shook his head. Five days ago, he left the kingdom to attend to some matters and he was ambushed by King Elvis' men. King Elvis is princess Daphne betrothed and also his enemy. He knew they were about to have their engagement before he ambushed her kingdom. King Elvis is definitely not going to let her go, everyone knows how smitten he has been with Daphne. But, she is his now.
"No," he said.
"Why? She can help us defeat him," Antonio said.
"We don't know where her loyalty lies yet brother. The princess is smarter than she looks. How can she not hate me for what I did to her kingdom and father? There is a lot we don't know about her yet, we need to know that before we know where her loyalty might lay," he said and Antonio sighed.
"When is the wedding ceremony happening? I am afraid her brothers won't attend," he said.
"Send the invitations again regardless, it's left to them if they come," he said and Antonio breathed out again. King Elvis is just as powerful as him, the two kingdoms have been at war for a few years now. Now, a woman is involved. Antonio wonders which side the princess would choose, her betrothed or her new husband. She must hate Alexandro for bringing her here against her will. Antonio was worried, his brother is the only family he has left and he has to keep him safe, but how is he going to keep him safe when he has tangled himself in a possible love triangle and kingdom war?
