Chapter 3 - Unexpected Encounter

I was waiting to hear what he wanted to say. But then he pulled a mobile from his pocket—and realized it was my phone. Catching his breath, he said, "Our phones got exchanged!" I couldn't stop laughing. For a moment, I had thought he was about to confess, judging by the way he had run to me.

After realizing the mix-up, we both laughed, and soon my bus arrived. I said goodbye as he returned to his taxi. Once home, I freshened up and lay on my bed, flipping through all the pictures I had taken. Then, a message popped up on WeChat—it was him. He thanked me.

I clicked on the picture and suddenly felt inspired. I wanted to draw it. Jumping out of bed, I started sketching, placing the photo in the center and surrounding it with mooncakes, music, and all the little details I remembered.

On September 20, it was my best friend's birthday. I also had my Chinese language class that day. My bag was stuffed with gifts—and I brought along the drawing I had completed the night before. After class, I asked my teacher to hand the drawing to the male teacher, but she told me he was teaching in the next room, so I would have to give it to him myself.

I waited outside his classroom, and as soon as he noticed me, we waved at each other with smiles. I motioned for him to step out. As he came out, I handed him the drawing and said, "The picture quality wasn't good, so I drew it. Hope you like it."

He looked genuinely surprised. "I like it so much," he said. "I've never received a gift like this before." He thanked me and returned to his class.

I hurried to my best friend's house. It was her 19th birthday. I had brought 19 roses and three gerberas—three gerberas meaning I love you. I wanted to make her feel loved, even though I often struggle to express my own feelings. She was the only one who made me feel truly cherished.

After she saw the gifts, her eyes lit up. She knew I had tried my best to make her day special. We put on makeup together, got ready, and took countless pictures. Time flew by, and I didn't even notice my mom calling me. She told me to come home quickly because we were going to my elder uncle's place for dinner. All my cousins and relatives would be there.

I rushed back, only to step inside and see him—my ex-boyfriend—sitting there.
