Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Odds Breaker

Chapter 5: Odds Breaker

Max with his baggy clothes and backpack stretched his arms relieving himself from the stress he has gone through for the day, yawning as he walked toward Kelvin's room, tapping at his phone.

"Yo, Kelvin! You there?" he called, knocking on the door twice. No answer.

He frowned. "Weird. He's always around by now."

He tried again — still nothing. With a sigh, he twisted the doorknob. Unlocked.

The room greeted him with a sight that instantly brightened his mood: a half-open KFC bucket sitting proudly on the table.

"Oh, my man…" Max grinned as the chicken bucket glowed, he rubbed his palms together like a villain. "Kelvin, you've done it again!"

He dropped his bag, his stomach growling loud enough to echo. Without hesitation, he plopped down, reaching for a juicy-looking chicken thigh—

But something caught his eye. A letter, folded neatly beside the bucket.

"Huh? What's this?" he muttered.

He picked it up, about to open it — then his stomach growled again. "Ehh… letter later. Chicken now."

He tossed the letter aside and tore into the bucket. Grease smeared his lips as he nodded in bliss. "Mmm—bro, this hits different when you don't pay for it," he mumbled through a mouthful.

A few minutes later, he licked his fingers clean, put on his headphones, his eyes now wandering the messy room. "Wait… where's my laptop?"

He looked under the table, behind the bed, even in the wardrobe. Nothing.

Then it hit him.

"No way… He wouldn't."

He turned slowly toward the letter.

Unfolding it carefully, Max began to read:

"Hey Max,

Borrowing your laptop for a bit. I'll be gone for a while — maybe a month or two. Cover for me with the teachers and my parents if they ask. Don't bother looking for me .

Kelvin✌️😎."

For a moment, Max stared blankly at the paper. Then realization dawned.

"You son of a—!" he roared, slamming the letter on the table. The chicken in his mouth flew out like shrapnel as he screamed, "—BIIIIIITTTTCH!"

The entire corridor echoed with his outburst, a chorus of confused voices responding from other rooms. Max collapsed into the chair, groaning. "Unbelievable… first my laptop, now I have to cover for you for a whole two months."

He leaned back, muttering to himself. "This better be one hell of a story, Kelvin…"

Inside the Dungeon Level 2

A massive serpent's corpse lay coiled across the tunnel, its emerald scales cracked and steams from its inside covered the air. Kelvin stood over it, chest heaving, one hand gripping his spear buried deep in the monster's throat.

Blood turned into steam imidiately it dripped onto the now hot, moss-covered floor.

He twisted the shaft sharply and crack snapping the beast's neck fully. The serpent convulsed, then went still.

A holographic blue screen blinked into existence before his eyes.

He exhaled slowly, leaning on his spear. Two levels down. One more to go.

Then, as the serpent's body dissolved into light particles, a door shimmered at the far end of the corridor — tall, metallic, inscribed with pulsating red runes.

The boss door.

Kelvin's lips curled into a grin. Finally.

But before entering, he opened his Status Window again.

He stared at it for a while, then chuckled darkly. "Am low on stat but it still not enough. Can't waste my points carelessly"

He began muttering to himself, voice calm despite the heavy air.

"I have to get it... the title… Odds Breaker. The system only triggers when you defeat a monster that's far above your calculated limits. So—"

He looked at his stats again, eyes narrowing.

"Let's make my odds… terrible."

With deliberate care, Kelvin did not allocate a single point.

His heart thudded with quiet determination.

Good. Now the system will think I can't win.

He rolled his neck, took two deep breaths, and pushed open the boss door.

The room beyond was cavernous — so large it seemed to swallow sound. Dim blue flames burned in braziers along the jagged walls. Hanging from the ceiling was a monstrous shape, wings folded around its body like a cloak.

When Kelvin stepped in, the door behind him sealed shut with a heavy clang.

His pulse quickened. There it is.

The creature's wings twitched, unfolding to reveal an enormous bat — at least ten meters tall, its fangs glistening with viscous saliva. Its eyes snapped open, glowing crimson.

Then came the sound.

"SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH!!!"

The air vibrated violently. Shattering huge rocks and bolders. Kelvin staggered, clutching his ears as blood leaked from them. The sound wasn't just loud — it was like knives stabbing through his skull.

He grit his teeth. Tch—too strong already!

The walls began to crack and shake click-click-click spiked pillars jutted from the ceiling and walls, slamming down at random. Kelvin rolled, ducked, and dove, each motion barely avoiding death.

The ground exploded where spikes struck, sending shards slicing across his face.

"Damn it!" he hissed, sliding across the stone.

The bat moved, faster than sight, its massive body blurring into an afterimage. It slammed into him with the force of a truck.

Kelvin crashed against the wall, ribs cracking audibly.

For a moment, darkness clouded his vision.

He coughed, blood spilling down his chin. His spear clattered beside him.

Then — slowly — he stood up, using it as a crutch.

Still… not… enough to stop me.

The bat landed in front of him, screeching again.

"SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH!!!"

The sonic wave blasted him backward, his eardrums tearing up the more. Blood gushed freely now.

He stumbled to his feet again, only to see a blur — claws slicing through air.

The impact slammed him into the ceiling's spikes.

His leg snapped with a grotesque crack as he fell to the ground.

Pain flared white-hot. His body screamed at him to stop moving.

But his eyes — those burning, defiant eyes — refused to close.

"Not yet… I'm not done."

The bat dove again.

Kelvin barely dodged, rolling aside, thrusting his spear upward and catching the creature's wing membrane. He held on, muscles trembling.

Then stab! he drove the spear into one of its eyes.

The bat shrieked, its scream shaking the walls harder than before.

Its remaining eye turned blood-red, veins bulging, fur bristling in rage. The sound that followed wasn't just heard — it was felt, vibrating in Kelvin's bones, his skull, his brain.

The system voice echoed urgently in his mind:

[Warning: Brain strain critical. Risk of death imminent.]

[Survival Rate: 37%...]

[28%...]

Shut up… I'm not dying here.

His blood vessels burst one by one under the pressure.

Blood streamed from his nose, eyes, and mouth, painting him crimson. His uniform dirty and tatterd, skin cut and burned. His hair clung wetly to his forehead, his right arm trembling.

He could feel his heartbeat slowing.

[Warning: Damage inflicted — Leg fracture ] [ Warning:Heart strain 80%]

The boss got even more furious as it's prey is not yet dead. It's aura exploded making it's hairs in it's skin to vibrate making more screeching sound all around..

SCERWEEEEEEERERRECQCCQHHHHH

People outside dugeon could not just hear the sound but feel the pain inside of them some even fainted but not kelvin due to his high will power

Kelvin did stop even thought he could feel his inside organs destroying he was determined to get the title .

[Alert: Blood loss 80%]

[Predicted survival rate: 0%]

Kelvin looked up at the hovering monster. He smiled through cracked lips.

"Zero percent, huh? Perfect."

"System," he whispered, voice ragged. "Allocate… all points to Strength."

His body ignited with energy. Veins bulged, muscles tensed, bones creaked. Every ounce of pain became fuel. The broken leg steadied. The spear hummed with raw force.

He dashed forward — faster than sound — and punched through the air, a sonic boom echoing through the dungeon.

His fist struck the bat's chest with such force that its ribcage imploded inward.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!" Kelvin roared, eyes wild, blood streaming from every pore. He punched again and again, each blow shattering bone, tearing flesh, crushing what remained of its heart.

The bat screamed, wings flailing, but he didn't stop.

"Die—" punch

"—Die—" punch

"—Die!!!" punch

"—Dieeee!" final punch

The explosion that followed was deafening.

The bat's body erupted into blue fire, disintegrating into dust.

Kelvin staggered backward, chest heaving. His vision dimmed.

He fell onto his back, staring at the ceiling as the system window blinked alive above him.

"Buy," he rasped.

The Elixir shimmered into his hand, glowing a deep gold. He uncorked it with his teeth and downed it in one go.

Instantly, his wounds began to close. Bones snapped back into place, flesh knitted together. His breathing steadied, heartbeat normalizing. The pain receded like a fading dream.

He looked at his reflection in the black floor — bloodstained, broken armor, one torn sleeve, eyes glowing faintly blue.

Still alive, he thought, smirking.

He closed the window, picked up his spear, and faced the shimmering light that appeared at the end of the dungeon.

A new gate. A new challenge.

"Let's see," he muttered, voice low but steady. "What's next?"

The dungeon rumbled in reply, and the light swallowed him whole.
