I studied every line of the contract until my eyes burned. The terms were straightforward enough - serve as Shadowpeak's Luna for twelve months, stand beside Kermit at formal gatherings and Pack ceremonies, pledge my loyalty to their territory, and provide care for his child.
The compensation seemed generous. Complete protection under Shadowpeak's name, unrestricted access to all Pack resources and estates, plus the total elimination of my father's crushing debt.
Everything appeared legitimate on paper. That's exactly what made my skin crawl - I still couldn't figure out what Shadowpeak truly gained from this arrangement.
I'd pressed Kermit for answers, but he insisted they wanted nothing in return. His casual dismissal only deepened my suspicion.
Despite my doubts, I pressed pen to paper and signed my name.
Luna Estelle's satisfaction was immediate. She announced that my coronation would take place within days.
