An unfamiliar ceiling came into view.
Then, a cacophony of sounds flooded his ears, and only after adapting did he gradually make out what the people next to him were saying.
"Oh my god, Peter! Chris is awake, our baby is awake!" a sharp female voice exclaimed.
Then, a flippant male voice annoyedly said, "I can see that, Lois! What a shame, the insurance I bought for Chris was too late; they won't pay out!"
"What! When did you buy insurance for Chris?"
Chris, lying in bed, shifted his gaze towards the voices and finally saw the two people speaking.
A white fat man, so obese he could probably yield two hundred pounds of grease, and a sexy, orange-haired white woman. The two were currently arguing loudly about something.
A classic American character pairing.
The moment he saw them, various thoughts flashed through Chris's mind, and he had an indescribable sense of familiarity with the two.
But before Chris could think further, the orange-haired woman punched the white fat man's cheek, and instantly, a vivid red flower bloomed on the fat man's face.
Looking at the broken glasses that had flown to his chest, and the miserable state of the white fat man, a strange feeling of satisfaction welled up in Chris's heart.
It was as if he had wanted to do that for a long time.
And he could clearly distinguish that this feeling of satisfaction was composed of two consciousnesses: one from the original consciousness of this body, and one from the transmigator himself.
This surprised Chris; he didn't understand why he was so happy to see the white fat man get hit.
"Fuck! You actually wanted to commit insurance fraud using Chris's injury, you son of a bitch!"
The white fat man was knocked to the ground by the orange-haired woman, but the woman, with her explosive combat power, didn't stop, or rather, didn't stop kicking.
She raised her sharp high heel and fiercely kicked the fat man, beating the seemingly tall and strong man until he was utterly helpless, only able to curl up and wail.
"Stop, Lois, stop now! I know I was wrong, I shouldn't have lured Chris to the roof, I just wanted to make some extra money. Who knew the insurance company only pays out for accidents after three months? I was too impatient!"
However, hearing the fat man's explanation, Lois became even more furious, and her kicks grew even more vicious.
And Chris, lying in bed, was utterly dumbfounded by these words.
This fat man is too much of a beast!
To use his own son's life for insurance fraud, is this really something a human being would do?
Chris even felt that "beast" wasn't enough to describe this fat man. He even wondered if the world he had transmigrated to was being watched by some ancient god, otherwise, how could there be such a father?
Just as Chris was searching his mind to figure out what world he had arrived in, the hospital room door was pushed open, and two people and a dog walked in.
A chubby girl with a pink knitted hat, her face covered in freckles and acne scars.
And a baby with a head shaped like a dumpling, next to him was a white Labrador dog slightly larger than him, and the dog was even walking upright.
What a bizarre world!
The girl was carrying two bags of food, intentionally ignoring the full-blown brawl happening, and went straight to set out the food, speaking loudly to cover the fat man's wails, "Mom, the store didn't have Dad's favorite beer, so I got a different brand."
It was the child and the dog who first saw the bruised and swollen Peter, but Chris could guarantee that he only saw expressions of schadenfreude on their faces, completely devoid of any sadness or intention to intervene.
Especially the dog; Chris even thought he was hallucinating, because he actually heard the dog talking to the baby.
"Oh, yes! Stewie, remember our bet? I told you Lois would fix Peter once she knew the truth."
The dumpling-headed baby shook his head and replied, "Yes, yes, but you bet Lois would beat Peter into a pulp, but now? This fat man only has superficial injuries. So, our bet isn't over yet!"
This left the dog speechless. He opened and closed his mouth a few times, then stubbornly continued, "Then let's keep watching! I guarantee Peter won't have a single good piece of flesh left on him in the end, and even his teeth will fall out!"
"Heh heh!" The baby didn't retort, just let out a cold laugh.
Then the baby noticed Chris staring at him, and his eyebrows twitched, clearly surprised by Chris's current expression.
That bewildered look didn't resemble his brother at all! Instead, it was like a stranger.
And Peter, still being beaten, saw the others return, especially his daughter, and screamed hoarsely, "Meg, come save me! Your mother is going to kill me, save me!"
This cry for help broke through Meg's indifference. She sighed in annoyance, finally awakened to their father-daughter bond by Peter's wails.
"Mom, please stop! If you keep hitting him like this, Dad will really be beaten to death, and then Chris and my studies will also be delayed."
Persuaded by Meg, Lois remembered that their family still needed Peter's salary to live, but thinking about Chris almost falling to his death, Lois was very unwilling.
But seeing that Chris, who was lying silently on the bed, was not in mortal danger, she vented her anger by kicking Peter fiercely in the face, then let him go and turned to hug Chris.
"My little meatball, it's so good that you're okay."
Feeling the sincere affection of the woman in his arms, Chris felt his soul stirred, and then he spoke the words that this body often said.
"Mom!"
As Chris's words came out, the gap in his soul, which had originally needed time to integrate, instantly healed, and the transmigator's consciousness perfectly merged with this body.
However, while mother and son were having their heartfelt moment, Peter, released by Lois, grimaced and rubbed his face, then gave his daughter a thumbs-up.
To show his gratitude.
But Meg didn't appreciate it, looking at Peter with great disgust, then nestled beside Lois.
And the little baby, seeing that his bet with the dog was over, proudly extended his small hand and said with a smile, "Twenty dollars, no installments."
The white dog's mouth hung open, and his paws pointed at Meg, then at Lois and Peter, encompassing many things he wanted to say.
Unfortunately, actions spoke louder than words; he had lost their bet after all.
So, facing the baby's devilish smile, he could only reluctantly pull out twenty dollars and hand them over.
"Great!" The baby took the twenty dollars, flicked them, then looked at his strange brother, and after a word of praise, continued, "Looks like my life won't be lacking in fun from now on!"
With his head resting on Lois's shoulder, Chris clearly saw and heard the actions between the person and the dog, and also, through this series of beastly behaviors, learned which world he had arrived in.
An American animated series, primarily focused on parody, also known in its localized Chinese name as "Family Guy."
It was even jokingly referred to as "The Beastly Family" by many netizens, simply because its characters had committed many beast-like deeds.
And he was one of the main characters of this animated series, and also Peter, the male protagonist of Family Guy's, eldest son.
A good-natured, somewhat slow, practically succubus-like meatball teenager, Chris Griffin.
