Chapter 1 - PROLOGUE: The night everything changed

11:47 PM - City General Hospital

Dr. Wu Suo Wei was three hours into his night shift when they wheeled him in.

Gunshot wound to the abdomen. Losing blood fast. Unconscious but alive—barely.

"GSW, massive hemorrhaging, BP dropping—" the paramedic rattled off as they rushed him into surgery.

Wu Suo Wei's hands moved on autopilot, his mind focusing on saving the life in front of him. He didn't care who the patient was. Doctor's oath. Save everyone.

But as he worked—hands inside the man's body, stopping the bleeding,

repairing the damage—

he couldn't help but notice details.

The Expensive suit is now soaked in blood.

Multiple old scars crisscrossing his torso.

A massive scar across his abdomen that looked like it had been there for years.

This man had survived before.

And his face—even unconscious, even pale from blood loss, he was striking. Sharp features. Strong jawline. The kind of handsome that was almost dangerous.

"Doctor Wu, his BP is stabilizing," the nurse said.

"Good. Keep monitoring. We're almost done."

Three hours later,

Wu Suo Wei stripped off his bloody gloves and surgical gown, exhausted but satisfied. The patient would live.

"Doctor Wu?" Another nurse approached, looking nervous. "There are... men outside. Asking about the patient. They look..."

"Look like what?"

"Dangerous."

Wu Suo Wei frowned. "Tell them the surgery was successful. He's in recovery. No visitors until he's stable."

The nurse nodded and scurried away.

Wu Suo Wei didn't think much of it. He'd treated gang members before. Usually they were grateful, paid in cash, and disappeared.

Two days later

Wu Suo Wei entered the recovery room to check on his mystery patient—and found him awake.

Dark eyes locked onto his immediately.

"You're the doctor," the man said. His voice was rough ..

"Dr. Wu Suo Wei said — How are you feeling now?"

"Like I got shot." A slight smirk. "But I'm alive...Thanks to you."

"Just doing my job." Wu Suo Wei checked the monitors, avoiding those intense eyes. "You're healing well. Another few days and—"

"What's your full name dr..?"

Wu Suo Wei blinked. "Excuse me?"

Your full name?

Age?

Where you live?

Are you seeing anyone?

Are you single?

"That's... highly inappropriate—"

"I'm Chi Cheng."

The man—Chi Cheng—said it like Wu Suo Wei should know the name.

Should be afraid of it.

Wu Suo Wei didn't recognize it. "Nice to meet you, Mr. Chi. Now if you'll excuse me—"

"You don't know who I am."

Chi Cheng sounded almost amused. "That's... refreshing."

"Should I?"

"Most people in this city do." Chi Cheng's eyes tracked Wu Suo Wei's every movement. "But you? You're not from the underground, are you?

"I'm a doctor. I don't involve myself in—"

"You're involved now." Chi Cheng's voice was dangerous and certain.

"The moment you saved my life, you became involved. You became mine to protect."

Wu Suo Wei's heart skipped. "I'm not yours—"

"Not yet." Chi Cheng's smile was predatory. "But you will be, Doctor. You saved my life. That means your life belongs to me now. That's how this works."

"That's not how anything works—"

The door burst open. A tall man strode in—handsome & the same dangerous aura as Chi Cheng.

"Boss, we need to move you.

The Zhao family knows you're here—" He stopped, seeing Wu Suo Wei. "Who's this?"

"This is Dr. Wu Suo Wei. The man who saved my life." Chi Cheng's eyes never left Wu Suo Wei's face. "And my future Wife..."

Wu Suo Wei's jaw dropped. "What wife..?"

"Guo Cheng Yu, arrange for Dr. Wu's things to be moved to the mansion. He's coming with us."

"I'm not going anywhere with you—"

"You are." Chi Cheng sat up despite his injury, his presence suddenly overwhelming. "Because in about ten minutes, the Zhao family is going to storm this hospital looking for me. And when they find out you're the doctor who saved me? They'll kill you to hurt me.

So you have two choices: come with me & live, or stay here and die."

"You're insane—"

"I'm realistic." Chi Cheng stood, wincing but steady. "Choose, Dr ... Now quick..."

"Tick tock," Chi Cheng said softly. "They're coming."

And in the distance, Wu Suo Wei heard it— it's gunshots...

"Fine. I'm coming with you... But this doesn't mean—"

"It means everything." Chi Cheng grabbed his arm, pulling him close... "You're mine now, Doctor. And I take care of what's mine..."
