Chapter 1 - “Why does this immortal look so pleased?”

An Lin stood at the edge of the tall building as the roaring wind rushed past him.He glanced behind—there, a group of fierce-looking men were slowly closing in.

"Hey hey hey, brat, let's see where you run this time! If you've got the guts, why don't you fly into the sky?!"The burly man in the lead held an iron rod, a cruel grin spreading across his face.

An Lin knew he had no chance of escaping now. But whenever he thought of what would happen if they dragged him back, his body trembled uncontrollably. That life… wasn't something a human could endure!

What do I do? What do I do? If only I could fly…

Just as that thought flashed through his mind, a sudden gale swept through heaven and earth, lifting him into the air.

"Eh? Eh? EH?!"

An Lin's eyes widened in terror. He was actually flying—blown upward by the wind!

"Holy crap! He really can fly?!"Even the burly man was dumbfounded.

Before everyone's eyes, An Lin was carried off the rooftop by the violent gust.

Then—The wind vanished.

And he began to free-fall.

"AHHHHH—SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!"

The howling wind, the weightless drop, the sheer terror—An Lin screamed his lungs out.

I'm gonna die! I'm gonna die! I'm gonna die!!!

Fear engulfed him entirely, his body shaking from head to toe.

Back on the rooftop, the burly man stared blankly at the falling figure. After a moment, he turned slowly toward his men and said:"Uh… y'all saw that, right? The kid didn't jump 'cause of me. The murderer… was 'the wind.' You better testify for me…"

His men stood frozen. That wind had been way too bizarre—would anyone even believe it? They themselves barely believed what they saw!

An Lin shut his eyes as the ground rushed closer. He never expected his life to end so pathetically.

Just then—a mysterious white orb of light appeared, wrapping around his body.

A crushing force followed, and suddenly he felt like he was on a roller coaster—dropping to the bottom, then curving upward, and shooting back into the sky.

"AHHHHHHH—!"

He screamed again as he was hurled upward, only to fall back onto the rooftop.

The violent mix of weightlessness and crushing force made his head spin. Moments later, he couldn't help vomiting.

"Hey, hey, young man, are you alright?"A faint ethereal voice drifted to his ears.

He looked up and saw an old man gazing kindly at him.

Behind the old man, all the thugs had collapsed unconscious on the ground.

The old man's hair and beard were snow-white, his aura divine, golden immortal energy swirling around him. He looked like a flawless, holy being.

Seeing him, An Lin trembled. Countless stories—novels, anime, films—rushed into his mind.

Was this not the classic beginning of every fantasy dream?!

Thud!

An Lin dropped to his knees, tears welling up."Immortal! Thank you for saving me!"

The old man stroked his beard and smiled gently."Apologies, my spell misfired earlier and frightened you. By the way, why were those people chasing you?"

"Misfired?"An Lin blinked. So he was blown off the building because of this old immortal?!

But since the immortal saved him, An Lin poured out all the grievances in his heart:

His mother's death. His father's gambling addiction. The house, lost.Millions in debt. His father disappearing.Debt collectors finding him and demanding he "repay his father's debt."His girlfriend ditching him without a second thought.Being forced into exhausting labor as a hostage. His desperate escape—and the chase that followed.

By the time he finished, An Lin was sobbing, feeling his whole life was gray and hopeless.

The immortal sighed, sympathy in his eyes."Young man, your fate is truly bitter… Since we've met today, and since you possess excellent potential, allow me to give you a 'system'—something to change your life."

An Lin froze.

He could gain an immortal fate… and a system? On first meeting?!

"Immortal grandpa, you're too kind! I—I don't know how to repay you!"He was moved to tears.

The immortal smiled lovingly, raising his palm. A pure white orb materialized upon it.

"Young man, come. Hold this orb."

An Lin hurriedly grabbed it.

Warmth flowed into his palm. Soft, gentle light glowed from within.

"Begin system transfer," the immortal said.

The orb flared brilliantly.

"Hurry, swear your oath—accept this War God System, never abandon it for life!"

War God System? What a domineering name!Though… why did that oath sound like wedding vows?

Still, no time to think.

"I swear to accept the War God System, and never abandon it for life!"

The moment he finished, the orb shot into his body and merged with him.

A voice rang in his mind:"Host detected: Heavenly Nether Dao Physique. Qualifications approved. Beginning system integration."

An Lin was ecstatic—nearly crying again.

His life had turned from despair to cheat-mode in an instant!

The immortal was also ecstatic—so ecstatic he started crying too.

He looked up to the sky, tears streaming, fell to his knees, and laughed while sobbing:"Hahaha! You're finally gone! I'm finally free!!!"

"…Immortal grandpa? Are you alright?"An Lin asked, confused.

The old man snapped back, wiping his tears."No worries. I was just reminded of… unpleasant memories."

"Young man, work hard now that you have a system."

"I will!" An Lin nodded firmly.

"Would you like to attend a cultivation school? I know a pretty good one."

Would he?Only an idiot would refuse!

"Yes! Absolutely!"

The immortal smiled and handed him a sheet of golden paper."This is my recommendation letter. With it, you may enter the United University of Immortal Cultivation and begin your path."

An Lin's heart shook. His path to becoming a cultivation prodigy—already paved?!

He accepted the letter reverently."May I know your name, Immortal grandpa?"

"My name… better left unsaid."The immortal patted his head with sympathy.

"I must go now. Farewell, young man."

The immortal then flew off on a cloud.

"Safe travels, Immortal!"An Lin bowed gratefully.

From the sky came the immortal's laughter—free and unrestrained, as though releasing a lifetime of frustration.

Why is this immortal so… happy? He seems even happier than me…An Lin scratched his head in confusion.

Just then, a gentle female voice spoke in his mind:"Hello."

A heavenly, beautiful voice. An Lin shivered. Is this the system's voice?!

A gray interface appeared in his mind:

"War God System will activate upon entering the Primordial Continent."

Primordial Continent?Could it be…?

He opened the golden recommendation letter.

It was blank—except for a shallow handprint.

Confused, An Lin placed his hand on it.

Suddenly—bright golden light swallowed him whole.

"Ah—!"

The world spun. His vision went dark, then bright.

He was falling again.

Another free fall.Another "jumping off a building" feeling. No matter how many times it happened, it made him want to cry.

Boom!

He hit the ground hard, only saved by the golden light cushioning him.

"This is a transportation technique? Isn't this way too violent?!"An Lin groaned.

He lifted his head—and froze.

Two massive white dragon-carved pillars, each a hundred meters tall, towered before him.Behind them stretched endless grand palaces, surrounded by drifting clouds and soaring spirit beasts.

A majestic immortal realm.

An Lin stood stunned.

So… immortals really existed. And he had arrived.

He forced himself to calm down. After a moment, he spotted a woman in Daoist robes walking by and hurried over.

"Hello, fairy lady!" he greeted.

The beautiful woman approached—But when he asked where he was, she replied:

"Gili gulu?"

"Huh?! What did you say?"

Again she spoke: "Gili gulu wa le gili?"

An Lin froze. What language was that??

A terrifying thought struck him.

"Fairy sister… can't you speak Mandarin…?"

"Gulu gulu waji jiji?"She put her hands on her hips, angry.

Finished.He couldn't understand a word.

An Lin stood dazed, a single thought in his mind:

What the heck? This isn't how novels go! Isn't everyone supposed to magically speak Mandarin?!

And so—

An Lin cried.

How was he supposed to cultivate when he couldn't even understand the language?

Others started as trash. He was starting as… intellectually disabled.
